Power light comes on, goes off, comes on, goes off repeatedly

Hi, I have a Canon XL1s that I haven't used for around a year. I've just been getting it ready for a shoot on Tuesday. The batteries are all charged up but when I connect a battery and turn on the camera, the red power light turns on momentarily and then off again, then it'll come back on again and then off. It repeats this until I turn it off.
Looking in the viewfinder it tries to light up and then dies again. Then repeats this each time the power light comes on.
I also had to change the back-up battery.
I'm tearing my hair out trying to understand what is wrong and can't find anything in the manual relating to this. Please can someone advise urgently?!
Thank you
Rich

If it has been left unused for a year, the battery had probably died - it may attempt to charge, but won't hold a charge. Replace it.

My ABS light keeps coming on. When I tun the car off it goes off but when I tun it back on and drive about half a mile it comes back on. Any thoughts?

I guess you haven't been around any cars since 1981,
some 30 years

You haven't heard of ON-Board-Diagnostic Systems,
that turn a check light on your dash, when a Govt Mandated
Emissions Problem arises?

The ABS light is a possible Braking System Fault

So from now on :

ANY DASH LIGHT YOU GET

Check for codes
Diagnose the system that set a check light
Resolve /Repair

Who does that you ask?

Hi, I've had my Acer aspire laptop for a few years now, but I haven't used it for over a year (Because I got a desktop). So when I've come to turn it on today, It won't work. The screen...

Start with pulling the battery and power, then hold the power button in for about 30-40 seconds. Then plug the power back in (still no battery). Try to power up the computer. If it boots, shut it down and put the battery in and try again. If it boots the issue was cleared. If it boots with the power cord but not with the battery added, you have a battery issue.

Hope this helps

I have an Canon xl1s camcorder. It does not want to rewind dsv tape after recording.

Always make sure that your Battery is full charge, I usually blow soft air to clear the heads and any other small particles. use a new tape.., remember depending in how long and use of camera could make a difference in long lasting equiptment. Its possible that is time for the camera technician to come in the rescue. Call around for estimades in your camcorder repair and you may be suprise how competetive pricing is out there..

Hi; I keep getting dirty heads message - I run it through with a cassette head cleaner and even try to clean manually with a cotton bud and cassette tape cleaning solution, but after about 20 mins...

Have you changed brands of mini-DV tape? Some are poor and flake off or have a bad binder that clogs up the head. Sony and Panasonic fought it out for years as to whose emulsion binder would win out. Try using a new Canon-approved tape and see if it works. If even that clogs up, sounds like a trip to the shop is necessary.

Camera no power

You are right. It is not the battery. XL1s may have a blown transistors in the power PCB. It probably would not damaged any other are but power. This symptom requires a disassembly and removal of power PCB and repair. Sorry, I could not give any quick resolution for this. James. For further assistance, go to www.camerarepairjapan.com

Canon xl 1s won't power up. Power light flashes, screen lights up then it turns it self off..will keep repeating like this every few seconds but won't stay on help

Just fixed this problem. It is one of the three main fuses that have blown out. This is not supposed to be consumer accessible or fixable, but I did it.
Open up the camera case using the 5 allen head screws disconnect the top ribbon cable going to the playback buttons on the handle. on the main board (behind the tape deck) are 3 tiny square black fuses The top fuse FU3201 is the VTR The middle fuse FU3200 is the Motor The bottom fuse FU3202 is the Camera/Lense
The bottom fuse was my culprit. I found a tiny piece of copper and bent it into a U shape and slipped it over the fuse so that it touched the metal terminals on both sides and bypassed the fuse. This fixed the problem.
Haven't used the camera extensively since, but shoot about 10 hrs a week with 2 xl1's and will post if anything happens.

Did you change to VCR and then use the +/- to replay on the viewfinder?

Tape will not eject servo reaches halfway but sticks XL1s

Try this...

Hit the eject button. As soon as it makes it half way, take the battery out.
Leave the white cover open, put the battery back in.

This should take the tape cartridge up all the way and eject the tape.

I had the same problem and it ejected the defective tape
