try using the telephone cord and jack from the phone that is working with the phone that is not working, if it now works the problem is the jack you were using or the phone cord. If that doesn't solve the problem, unplug the AC adapter and the phone cord for the non-working phone and let it sit for a couple minutes, plug them back in then try to make a call.

No dial tone

  • First, try to check every telephone line is properly plugged into its phone jack. If you have a problem with just one phone, plug a different phone into that jack. If the second phone works, the problem lies in the first phone.
  • Then unplug each phone and answering machine in your house, one at a time. Wait 30 seconds after unplugging the first device. Pick up another phone to see if there's a dial tone -- if there is, then the first phone may be faulty. If not, continue unplugging phones in the same way and check for dial tone. If you find a phone that doesn't work, plug all your other phones back in and see if they work properly. The faulty phone should be replaced.
  • or disconnect the plug from the test jack inside the exterior box. This disconnects your inside wiring from phone company's line. If you have more than one line, select the test jack for the line that is causing the problem. Plug your phone into the jack; this plugs you directly into the phone company's line. If you have a cable modem, plug the phone directly into the jack on the modem.
  • Then pick up the phone receiver to see if there's a dial tone. If there's no dial tone, the problem is with your outside wiring. If there is a dial tone, the trouble is caused by your inside wiring, equipment or jacks.
  • Hope it will help you. Thanks for using FixYa.

I have 2 problems. 1. The orange message light will not stop flashing no matter what I do. 2. Some how the system was switched from touch tone to dial tone. I can't seem to that switched either.

Resetting the voice message waiting indicator
When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset flashes. In the event your message waiting light gets out of sync with your phone company's
voice messaging system, you can manually reset it back to the "No messages waiting" state.
    1. Press and hold FiND on the base for five seconds.
Note: The handsets connected to the base will start to beep, however, keep pressing for five seconds.
    2. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.
    Changing the dial mode
Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most base networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you will need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, please follow the steps below to modify your phone's settings:
    1. Press MENU/SELECT.
    2. Select the Global Setup menu, and then the Dial Mode submenu.
    3. Scroll to highlight Pulse.
    4. Press MENU/SELECT. You will hear a confirmation tone.
If you ever need to change the dial mode back to tone dialing, follow the same procedure, but select Tone in step 3.

Finally for future ease of use, here is a link to the user manual were I copied the above information from:

Have a 1976 Mickey Mouse push button phone. I get a dial tone, but not able to dial out

This may be something as simple as REVERSING the line wires or a bad tone pad. Some pre 1980's tone pads didn't have polarity guard (EPG) and that's what we used to restrict dialing on touch tone lines (poor man's dialing restriction).

You can open up the jack the phone plugs into and reverse the red and green wires, or open up the phone and do the same thing. If it were my choice, I'd reverse the jack. If that doesn't fix it, pry off the faceplate cover over the dial, read the part number on the right side of the tone pad and post back. I'm sure I have an equivalent in the warehouse (outside of my 2 TT Mickey's) that I can give you a price on.

How do i transfer a call to another extension?

Unless your phone is connected to a TAW-848 or higher, your extensions are numbered 101-124 maximum, or 21-36. Try going to any phone but the main one and dialing either 101 or 0 and look at the display. You'll figure out your 3-digit extensions. Now just press TRANSFER and dial that 3-digit number. The outside call is put on hold when you press transfer, so there's no need to use the HOLD button.

As an alternative, you can press HOLD, putting the outside line on hold, and dial the 3-digit number into the intercom dial tone and announce the call for line number x. Or, dial the page code 330 and announce to all phones for the person to pick up line x.
