My Sony USB 4 GB flash drive will not work on my XP Microsoft OS. It had been working fine for about 3 months, now when I go to open it, it asks with what program do I want to us. However, it works just fine when I put it on a computer with VISTA. Got any suggestions?

Vista will not provide complete support for USB flash.Get the USB drivers of your flash drive from your manufacturer's website and intall them. If it doesn't work it is better to change your OS. I recommend XP SP2.

Write protected

do you use windows vista or windows 7 OS?
They have a feature to use an external pen drive as a virtual system memory.
Try backing up all your data to your hard drive then full formatting it choosing NTFS system.
If you use OS which are older than Win XP, you need to format it in FAT32 system instead.

Hope this helps.

Retrieving information on a reformatted USB drive

Unfortunately when its been formatted all the data stored gets wiped off.
You could try searching on the net for data retrieval programs and see if any of them can help you. Something like this

Good Luck
