I cannot scan anything from from printer to my computer. I would like to scan photos to my computer. I was told this printer would work with windows vista but I have had this problem since I bought it. It worked one time and then after all the updates, it never worked again. Verify that you are connected to the correct network - check the SSID of your modem or router. Then verify that the printer is connected to that SSID as well. Check to make sure you have the correct network access number - sometimes an incorrect value gets entered. Once you've established the connection, check each computer for the printer connection of the C5180. They should say "ready" or "online" in the computers for the C5180 - reboot the computers if not.
If you are using Windows 7, check www.hp.com for an update on the appropriate driver download page - there is a know issue with the driver software that prevents scans from being saved anywhere.
Google, enter "HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One" and you can reinstall the scanner into computer...free. Under the black apple in the upper corner of screen find "recent Items" and you will find the Photosmart Studio where the scanner icon is used to scan and create a file in thecomputer.
--- actually there are a lots of reasons why you cant scan or your scanning features stop working...
-- first is the scanning software is not installed properly
-- second is the connection

You need to have the full photosmart software loaded on the computer and to use this to scan to computer rather than using the buttons on the printer. This is a workaround rather than a fix but it should work
