Question about Sigma EF-500 DG Super for Canon EOS TTL Flash

Bulb replacement for Sigma EF-500 DG Super

My flash had suddenly stopped working today, changed the batteries, still did not flash. All the functions and buttons work except for the test button which only makes a click noise as if it fires but no actual "flash" fires. This has me believe that it could be a bulb issue. Right before it had stopped the flash, I had put the "built in wide panel" down and took a picture with the flash firing, then I had put it back in and it never flashed again. Any help would be appreciated.

So I had fixed the problem this morning, since the warranty has expired, I opened up the flash to take a peak on the inner workings, and found that a wire had come loose, got out the soldering gun and repaired the connection and all is good.

Hi. I have the same problem. Opened the flash, found the loose wire = White, that is coming from red oval part (5mm tall) on the green el. board, but can`t see where it was loose from. The connection was that small that I cannot see where it was originally soldered. I tried to connect it to the the same side (as oval part) of the bulb together with the blue wire (for me the only thinkable connection where it can be connect to) but it did not fixed the problem so I guess it is not the right connection. It still charge the flash and make a "tick" sound when the Test button is pressed, but no flash.

Can user "sfdd" or anyone please describe (or send a photo ;-) where the white wire should go please? I cannot find any electrical circuit scheme for this flash on the net.

    Thanks a lot.

Same thing happen to me. Suddenly my trusty Sigma 500 DG Super does not flash, but only made a click sound when the test button is pushed. Having modified a few Vivitar flash in my lifetime, I suspected the "loose white wire" as described above. It seems that as the flash zoom moves with different focal length, eventually that wire will come loose.

Here are my steps (1) Make one last pop to fully discharge the internal capacitor

remove the AA batteries (2) pry and remove the 2 rubber cover plates on both sides of the flash, (3) unscrew the 2 screws next to the serial number plate 8 screws under the rubber cover plate, (4) locate the white wire and solder back to to metal tab on top of the red coil thingie, (5) reassemble everything back together.

Need manual for sigma ef-500 dg super minolta version

You may download a copy of the manual from here. It's for the Pentax version of the flash, but I don't see anything in it that's Pentax-specific except for the mention that's it's Pentax-specific.

Sigma ef-500 dg st won't work with my d300 or 200 in ttl mode

This Sigma flash is not Ittl compatible. The D300 and D200 Nikon must have Ittl compatible flash to operate in any of the Automatic modes. It is a great flash but will not work on those two cameras.

Can I use a sigma flash EF 500 with Sony Alpha 350

Yes, if it has a Minolta/Sony mount. The Sigma EF 500 has been producedin different mount, so that the model can fit different cameras from different producers. A Sigma flash for Sony should have SO-ADI written on it.

Manual for Sigma EF-500 DG Super

You can download the manual from http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-in...0DG%20SUPER-_M
Just answer a few quick questions about its performance, value for money etc and the link to download the manual opens up. Just be careful, because there is also a manual for the Nikon version of the same flash and they are a little different.

Hope this helps.

Sigma EF-500-DG, does not charge and does not become ready

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first - make sure they have full charge (in the wrong way can discharge them) but if is it still giving the same fault, your flash is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

A: For Sigma issue:

The Sigma EF-500 flashes have very small chromed contacts for the batteries. Even though they may not look corroded, they may not power up or conduct enough power to fully cycle up. Use a polishing tip in a dremel or an ink eraser tip to clean the internal wire contacts and the flat contacts on the door. I use dielectric grease on a q-tip to apply a coat to all contacts and cleaned battery terminals to minimise future issues.
