Ok so I have looked and looked online for help on how to update my bios on my toshiba 5005-s504 laptop I have seen multipule different solutions and eather I cant figuare it out or doing something wrong.... I'm experiancing a know issue with these laptops where it over heats every time I try to play a game or do any graphic design. I found the bios update on the web but every time I try to do the windows installation version it doesn't work and tells me I need something to do with the basic control, but what I'm wondering is, is there a way to get into the bios so I can upgrade it without using a blank cd or trying to find those annoying 1.44" floppys?

please any help would be highly appreciated and you can reach me at skoty795@yahoo.com

The most appropriate bios version can be found on support.toshiba.com for US model or toshiba.ca/support for Canadian model. If the install from windows wont run, i think your os is a 64 bit windows vista. If you do have a 64 bit vista, try this solution. Downgrade to XP then update the bios. it will do work. Then reinstall again the OS 64 bit vista. Its quite bit long but it will eliminate the use of cd or floppy disk.

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link to see what options you have.

In case of your laptop I would use software from Hiren's Boot CD to reset the BIOS (there is a program on the disc called Kill CMOS that wipes the BIOS as well as some other programs to remove the password).

You can remove the BIOS battery, but on laptops it's pretty hard to open it all up to get to the motherboard.

5005-S504 recovery disk says Wrong Machine. downloaded new bios years ago to prevent overheating per Toshiba. Can I still use recovery? Does Toshiba still offer bios upgrade

Yes but this is nothing to do with recovery disk if it is original Toshiba. Check your HDD as external to see if any partition is inside. If you wanted to install new program, then format the harddisk with external connection. If you had vista upgraded, it may say wrong machine but I doubt it.

It sounds like the hard drive is dying. I had a computer do the same thing and it turned out to be the hard drive. You should still be able to access the bios though. Try hittind either delete or F1 as soon as your toshiba screen appears.

Toshiba satellite 5005-S504 Secure Digital Card Slot problem

Hi there
Take a close look inside the card slot (you may need a torch/flashlight) look to see if any of the brass pins are bent or out of position, if they are use a very small flat head screwdriver to gently push them back into place.
If all looks fine with the slot and there are no foreign objects inside your card maybe faulty.
Also i suggest the you check the drivers are installed, check this in device manager.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Changing BIOS priority on toshiba satelite 5005-s504

as i recall, ntloader is software for the OS load, after hardware boot, so you already passed up your chance to enter bios, which you realize. i used to have a toshiba laptop, was it the delete key or F2 to enter BIOS? try delete, and make sure youre pressing it from restart like once a second as it's booting to make sure you hit it in the windows of time it's looking for key presses before it's time to load the operating system. you'll be fine. it's just unnerving to be locked out like that...
