It looks like the installation somehow affected your video adapater's driver.
look in the manufactuerer website for an updated driver for your video adapter and try to reinstall it and just to make things even simpler to ensure things work better when installing your video adapter driver try to do it in safe mode.

if you don't find a new driver for your video adapter try to uninstall and then reinstall the one you already have that may also correct your issue.

Compaq evo d 500, does not display the red colour

First step is to plug in a different monitor, if you have the same results then it would be a video card issue. If not then you have a bad VGA cable.

The display driver (among many others) for your machine are available on the HP support website.
Click Here for the direct download link.
1) Select Operating System (XP Professional / XP Home).
2) Select 'Driver - Graphics' and choose the appropriate download.

Hope this helps!

Compac evo d500 pc desktop motheboard

Try to start your EVO desktop in safe mode (press F8) before Windows loads.

Other things to try are a different graphics card or monitor.

PC is frozen when I press WIN-key

Do you see the Hard Disk Light ON during the time your computer is frozen? If that is the case there maybe an issue with the Hard Disk Controller.

When you installed a new version of Windows XP, did you format your entire Hard disk? (Just to make sure that your computer doesn't have a viral infection?)

Also, is it that the computer freezes when you press Alt+Enter ...or is it like the computer freezes after you press the Windows Key and then Alt+Enter?

Have you tried the Alt+Tab Combination?
