Replaced red and green tubes

I just replaced the red and green picture tubes but when i turn it on i can not get the tubes to focus. a vague instruction sheet was sent with the new tubes but it seem to only have part of the instructions. it talks about inputing a dot pattern but does not say how. am i missing something or should i call a repair tech?

Good Day;

You may mixed the lenses. The lenses have an adjustment and there is a focus/screen block for focus adjustments.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

Screen is red and I cannot adjust it enough to get the red out

Problem is going to be in the Green and Blue Tube ,you need to change the Coolant Fuild out and out in New,Philips is well known for having Bad Coolant fuild in the G/B Tubes.
With Back Off and TV on Look down inside of each Tube you should be able to see a Clear picture, in each Tube, If you do Not then you need to change out the coolant fuild.
You also have a Screen/Focus Control Block, it controls the Screen Drive and Focus to Each Tube R/G/B 3 controls on top and 3 below them. Top 3 should be for Focuse and Bottom 3 Screen Drive /Brightness to each Tube.
Now in order to aline for Correct Color you will need to adjust all 3 Tubes , Turn Color OFF in Menu then aline the Tubes untill you have a Black and white Picture ,Then go back to menu and turn Color on.

Sony rear projection tv kp-51ws500 no picture. Standby light blinking red 5 times. TV has sound but no picture. Before the picture went out TV was turning green then red and had curved lines going...

Blinking 5 times is a sign of at least one of the three video tubes overcurrenting, which will eventually shut off the image. It happened with me but with my red tube over-illuminating. The solution is to reduce the drive intensity on the offending tube. Remove the front speaker grill. Behind it you will find a panal with 6 pots, these are drive (brightness) and focus for each of the 3 colors. My fix was to turn down the red intensity to zero and (after a restart) bring it up slightly till the image was acceptable, colorwise. I did have to adjust all 3 intensities to get a decient color balance along with the focus's on all three tubes (the drive intensity adjustments will knock the focus out as you go). I used the auto-adjust patterns to focus on, and you may want to use a stationary image, such as a paused DVD scene or a video game, to focus on. I still haven't found a way to clear the error code, but I learned to ignore it. The result isn't perfect, but it's very acceptable and it'll do for awhile (and it didn't cost anything!). Good Luck.

Flashes green yhen shuts off

Many of these sets had bad picture tubes--they use a red, green and blue crt. Most commonly the blue gives troubles--The tubes are now only available on a rebuild basis--usually not worth doing as the cost is very high.

You may have a bad blue picture tube but there is a way to deal with this first----the set has a black plastic block with six controls---three are Focus(red, green, blue) the other 3 controls are Screen controls(red, green, blue)

Someone has to remove the entire piece on the front of the set below the screen(usually a plastic part) most of the time it is secured with 3 screws on either side of the set in the back; once you remove the screws the entire piece should pull out(pull from right to left(it will not fall off or come out easy--it is held in with several large plastic pegs) With it removed there is an inspection plate with 4 screws-----the screen/focus block is behind it.

You need to look very closely at the block to identify the focus versus screen controls----one row left to right will be marked Focus and the other row leftto right will be marked screen------YOU need to locate the Green Screen control (they are black like the block) With the set on(be careful) go to a video input clip_image001.gif with nothing connected---if you see a green screen as well as the input number turn the Green SCREEN CONTROL SLOWLY TO THE LEFT UNTIL THE green is gone.

If this cures the problem you may only be buying yourself some time----if the picture tube is bad sooner or later this trouble may return----I have seen sets where this was adjusted and the set worked for a year or more with no repeat of the trouble----replacing thetube would likely cost you 400 -500 parts and labor.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you rate this solution.

Hazy, washed out picture on Magnavox 51mp6100d

Remove back see if you can get to tubes top lenses clean all 3 from dirt/dust/ After cleaning off lenses there is a black control box has 3 controls on top 3 on bottom these are to adjust each tube R-G-B Tubes screen/ focus adjust one tube at a time--- Like to adjust red turn g,b.screen drive off turn red up adjust focus to a clear picture ,then green same and blue If you turn screen up to much it will either shut off or you will see Drive lines adjust back down.OK after doing this turn color off in menu adjust all 3 screen controls untill you have Black and white picture try to adjust as close as you can to get bl/wt picture when that is done now turn color on and you should have alot better picture.

RED AND GREEN LINES HORIZONTALLY ACROSS TV

This sounds like you may have bad picture tubes. Most likely the green and red tubes. You would have to have them replaced and realigned. I would call a Sony ASC and get an estimate to verify this. An onsite service call could verify if this is what's causing your problem.

Green picture

Hi,
I'm not sure about this model but most projection tv's have a focus/screen control block usually located behind the front grille where the speakers are. The grille usually comes off easily. If there are no circuit problems you can adjust the red green and blue picture tubes there. Also the focus. It will be written somewhere screen and focus: Three for screen and three for focus. If you find the screens then adjust them slowly clockwise for increase brightness on the red and blue and you may have to reduce the green. Adjust for best picture. If the picture does not adjust too good then the tubes are weak. Only if there are no circuit problems Hope this helps
