Hello maurice. Looks like you have an over-heating problem. The CPU has more chance of overheating when you use graphic intensive applications like Games etc., Clogged heatsink is one of the reasons for over heating. It would require you to get to the heatsink and clean any dust or any other stuff that may have got clogged in the heatsink. Another Idea will be to buy some kind of laptop cooler like the one below.

(4) Using proper anti-static/static control techniques, clip alligator clip or your anti-static wrist strap to a frame ground of the laptop at an I/O connector or frame ground under the HDD cover.
(5) carefully remove (2) old 256 MB SO-DIMM DDR333 memory modules.
Store old memory boards in the anti-static plastic baggie in which the new memory boards were shipped.
(6) install (2) new 1GB SO-DIMM DDR333 boards, for total of 2GB of system RAM.
(7) reassemble system, and boot OS (operating system).
The laptop's ROM BIOS will auto-detect the new RAM and begin a standard POST (Power-On Self Test).
(8) If OS is MSWindows, it will also auto-detect the new memory, and allocate it to application software.

Somebody hit my laptop with something and now the screen won't turn on. The dvd drive opens and the lights come on so it seems to be working other than the screen. Its a toshiba l305-s5926. Any ideas?

if it will run an external screen then get it running and back it up first.

then once your data is safe you open it up and look for a loose connector or some other broken part.

Hope this helps

Toshiba m35x-s349 turns on but does not boot

check battery power. Lots of times laptops won't boot if the battery has gone down to low. Probably has just enough charge to turn the machine on but not enough charge to boot the machine.

Need to replace toshiba satellite m35x-s163 fan

Unless you are really comfortable with opening laptops to upgrade parts, I won't recommend doing this. Rather get a notebook cooler. It does the job of cooling the notebook pretty well.
