SOURCE: JVC TH-D60- randomly get nothing

Static and scratching sound caused by dirt or dust in the PCB (printed circuit board) and loose or cold solder joint ;.Clean the circuit board with the use of laquer thinner or alcohol ,so static sound will gone.Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....If this solution help you understand the problem :rate as fixya..

Good luck;

I have a JVC TH-C30 an it turns on but no sound. Left it off for a day then tried again.....nothing! Changed power fuse....nothing! What else could I try to make this work?

If something turns on the fuse isn't blown.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on; or it may turn on but produce no audio to the speakers.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

you need to have service manual copy to check amplifier output section as it seems defective. There are few websites that offers service manuals download for small fee.

SUBWOOFER WON'T POWER ON (Grounding out???)

Check your cable that runs between the main unit and sub for bent pins. If they look fine there may be a short in the sub itself that is causing it to go in to shutdown.

Subwoofer not powering up

I could either be the sub or the main unit. The main unit actually sends a signal to the sub to turn it on so if that circuit is bad in the main unit the sub is never going to come on. I've also seen bad cables (You'd be amazed at how stubborn people can be when din connectors don't cooperate).

TV, i plug it in, turn it on, no image, "on timer" light comes on.

If you dont hear a click theres a problem in the standby power supply. if you do hear a click theres a problem in the Main power supply or sweep supply. Get a good tech to look at this for you if your not a tech. Good Luck
