IBM Thinkpad T22 Battery

I'm having trouble with the battery on the IBM thinkpad t22. For some reason it's not charging, eventhough the battery light is green and shows that it is fully charged. As a result as soon as the A/C adapter is disconnected it turns off. So it has to stay connected the whole time if not it shuts off.

I bought a second battery, charged it overnight, but I'm still having the same problem. The battery light is green, which means a fully charged battery, but it's not holding the charge. When i check the power source for the battery it reads that it is only 29%total battery power remaining. That's with the new battery and it connected to the A?C adapter.

Basically the batteries aren't charging. Could it be that both batteries are dead, even the new one? Or something else?

SOURCE: IBM ThinkPad T22 Series (Type 2647)

Since this is an older machine, the performance can't be boosted very much. The maximum performance you can get from this machine is 1ghz processor, with 512mb RAM. The 1ghz processor is the biggest processor that is compatible, and unfortunately, the system is base on a 100mhz frequency rating, so PC100 memory is the only compatible memory available. The maximum chip size in PC100 is 256mb, they just don't make them any bigger, so 2x256mb=512mb RAM. As far as the hard drive, it is an IDE drive, and you can get an IDE drive up to 120gb. These are very good and durable machines, just slow, so if you can deal with the lower level of performance, this machine will last years. Also, these are upgradeable to XP pro, but not Vista.

Ok hm...

Sounds expensive, I'm afraid!

Here is IBM'smag-glass_10x10.gif explanation of the error codes.

What your machine is telling you is that a chip on your Motherboard is faulty and the only way to repair it is a new system board.

It is probably worth finding out how much IBM would charge you to repair it but I very much doubt you'd get much change from £500.

SOURCE: My IBM Thinkpad T22's battery doesnt last. can i fix that?

Basically you need a new battery. Recharageable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and they lose their full charge capacity as the get older. The batteries will have less capacity over time ie less available battery time, and when it is worn out, it won't charge at all.

Remove the battery and try to power on without it. Replace the battery if the computer powers on. If not, the motherboard have to be repaired/replaced.

Can't power up. my IBM ThinkPad T22. I have the green light that indicates that it's charged up, however when I push the power button it just makes a flash and nothing happens.

If you only get a green light, try removing the battery first. If a laptop battery has gone bad, it will prevent a laptop from booting up.

Now, if removing the battery doesn't resolve your problem, check the laptop charger to make sure that the adapter has not malfunctioned.

If your fans are spinning, then the problem is probably the one listed below.

The transformer may not be converting the voltages properly.

Try these steps first. If it comes down to the internal transformer, then you have to contact IBM.

It might be that the power supply, battery, or backlight. Try pulling the battery out using just the power supply. If you have another power supply try that also.

Both batteries could be dead. But if you bought a new battery, it's unlikely. I don't know what green light you see, but if it's on the power adapter, it just means it's turned on--not that it is charging.
Two possibilities: Your power adapter is bad or the motherboard is bad. Because you say the computer works if plugged in, then you have ruled out the adapter.
You should be checking/cleaning the battery contacts and if all else fails, going for a new motherboard.

IBM T22 Battery won't charge & is not detected

Take it to a very good technician who will open it up and check a dry joint in the charging system.  Sometimes if you donot attend to it quickly you may find your T22 refusing to power at all with the AC Adaptor.  Delicate soldering may solve your problem.  Power may not be getting to the charging circuit and the battery thus it is totaly discharged.
