1996 olds cutlass supreme won't crank

Battery is good, starter is good, getting power to relays and fuses but when I turn the ignition key to start engine all dash lights light up but get nothing else. I had someone turn ignition key to start as I hooked up a test light to the ignition wire terminal and the light did not come on. I don't know what else to try.

Changed battery and starter but car still will not start. The car whins when you turn the key over but will not catch. Alternator tested and is good. All wires have been tested and are fine. Any other suggestions?

This isn't really a solution, but I have had this exact same problem for two years now.

Here is what I have been doing to make it work. Try jiggling or moving the gear selector, fastening the seat belts and retrying to turn the key several times. For me, it finally starts right up.

I know that sounds crazy but you might want to try it.

You can jump across the celonoid on the starter. If the engine turns over then your problem is either the celonoid or the starter switch.

Headlights won't turn off even with keys out of

The headlights are powered by the battery through the ignition switch via a fuse. Check the relay and the fuse; the problem will be in one of those two.

Wont start or turn over

No noise from starter, not even a click? If the battery is charged up good, and your battery cables are tight and clean, and the starter cable connection is tight, you can check for power on the starter solenoid purple wire when key is held in crank. If you have power there, it may be the starter or the solenoid that is bad. Pull off the starter for testing.
If no power on the purple wire with key in starting position, then something is out between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid. Could be the starter relay in the power distribution box, or the neutral safety switch at the transaxle, or the ignition switch itself Be methodical, go step by step to find the problem. A digital multi-meter is a necessary tool for electrical troubleshooting. But you can also just use a testlight when checking for power on a wire.

My 1996 cutlass supreme eill not start. when i turn the key i get no sound or anything

Check your battery connections. Take them off the battery and clean the posts and inside the + and - cables. If that does not help, the battery may be bad.

Ym oldsmobile cutlass supreme wont start and i put

Worst case or one suggestion might be the timing chain. I bet I get some flack here from pros and dealer techs, but the slow cranking is what I keyed off of. Iam sure the knowledgable olds folks will help you. Also bad battery cables, bad starter or just it's solenoid. Do you feel it is a starter issue as in cranking or no start as won't stay running?

I have a 1993 cutlass cierra that won't start. lots of battery power but nothing happens when you turn the key. New starter was just put in less than a month ago?

locate purple wire on starter, find good ground on frame, check for power when as a friend tries to start. be small wire (purple or gray) on starter. if no power when key turned to start, its not getting ignition signal from relay or switch. try that.

Trying to start a 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme and wont turn over.

Does it crank at all or is there nothing when you turn the key? If the resistor chips in the key(s) are bad, they shut down the fuel system for 3 minutes and it won't crank. I've had this happen and the problem was solved when I got new keys.

1006 olds cutlass supreme won't crank

try taking a power wire from the battery positive and getting it on the starter terminal and seeing if the starter turns over if it does it could be a fusible link that runs between the starter terminal and the relay
