Using an oven with a broken element

The broiler element in my stove has burnt up. I need to know if it's safe to use the bottom element still. We're getting ready to remodel the kitchen here in a few months and the replacement part is $70, I don't really want to spend that if I'll be replacing the oven in a few months. So I need to know if it's still safe to use. Thanks!

If it's electric the broil element also comes on when baking or using the bottom element,it comes on for even cooking when baking so whatever you're cooking will cook on top and bottom so don't use it until you buy the new element and whenever you work on the machine unplug it,also you can damage the clock assy. and that's the computer board and those can be very expensive,i've gone in,changed out the element and it still doesn't work from the element shorting out when it broke and it takes out the computer board so hopefully this doesn't happen

Hotpoint oven won't heat above 250 degrees broiler works fine as well as the stove top

either its the oven sensor rod located at the top of the ovens cavity,or your bake element could be getting a hot spot which is when it gets a discolored spot in the element and can no longer pass sufficient current to heat the oven past 250 degrees

My maytag range broiler works and stove top but not oven what could be wrong

Likely causes are;

Oven element faulty - needs to be tested;
Burnt wiring at oven element terminals - visual inspection;
The electronic timer is set to auto. mode - must be in manual mode.

How come the broiler is working and the oven is not?

When you select oven setting do the oven element and the broiler come on at the same time? If they do and the oven is not working the oven element is probably blown or there is burnt wiring at the element terminals.

Upper oven broiler element broken. Need to remove and replace

Yes you can replace it yourself. Make sure the breaker is off or the oven is un-plugged. When elements fail and burn out they will not stop until they have burned out completely.
The elements in this stove are simply held in place by a couple of quarter in head screws and the wires that connect to them are the push on connector type. There may be a support bar as well that you will need to remove as well to get the element out.
You can do this!
Good luck!

The oven does not heat up on my GE Spectra XL44 but the broiler and stove work fine.

Might be the bottom element is bad. Not too hard to install a new one.
I am no electrician but if you unplug the stove, remove the bottom element and use an ohm meter attatched to each end, it should show if the element is broken through lack of continuity.
Just an idea from a landlord.

Oven does not work- broiler does

You have a heating element out in the unit. This element is located in the bottom of the unit. Unplug the stove and take out all the racks. There should be one screw on each side of the element on the back of the stove (inside of the unit) take out the screw on eack side and GENTLY pull on the element and you will see wires conected to the element. Dosconet and replace the element. You might see that one wire is burnt and not conected. You might try reconcting the wire and testing the unit. If that is not the case then replace the lower element and problem solved. If you have any more questions feel free to ask and I will be happy to help. Good Luck.

Broiler works, but oven does not.

oven is equiped with two elements one,< upper > for broiler and the second < lower > is for baking . The bake element is probably damaged and no longer working,< damage is just from use the element has failed >, to know for sure element has to be tested for continuity to confirm this,< unless it is obviously damaged, broken or burnt and seperated >.
