I have had my JVC camcorder for a while and can't get it to capture videos on any program. I just got a brand new Dell Inspiron with Adobe Premiere and it still won't capture. Is the cable the JVC people gave me with camera. Do I need this firewire to make it work or do I have to download a driver??

To save the video on a computer, a firewire connections must first be established from the JVC GR-DX307 AS to the appropriate firewire port of the laptop (assuming it has one or through a PCMCIA firewire adapter card if required). In the camera, the FireWire/DV port is located beneath the mode dial on the left side of the JVC GR-DX307’s body. To access the FireWire/DV port, the LCD monitor must be first opened.
Soon as that connection is established, you can use Windows Import Video (Vista) to capture / download the videos.
Alternately, the A / V port of the camera maybe used to connect to a DVD Recorder for direct, realtime copying & burning. For the disc to be playable in another machine, it must be finalized.
IEEE 1394 doesn't work like USB so it probably won't show up in devices. What you would do is go to a video editing/burning program and click on a capture video option. The program accesses the video camera and you can choose what video you wish to record onto your computer.
This camcorder should not require a driver in order to capture the footage. Start up your capture software, power-up the camera in VCR mode and then connect the Firewire cable. It should then allow you to playback the tape and capture the contents. Here is the manual online: http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/94/LYT1353-001A.pdf If you need a simple program to capture the footage look to: http://www.virtualdub.org/
Your video-editing software (including Windows Movie Maker) should also capture the footage.
buy that wire, check ur camcorder if it has 6pin or 4pin for firewire then check ur pc if it has firewire card...if not you have to purchase the ieee1394card. install it then connect your camcorder to pc through firewire and that will be it.. u also need to have a software for video capturing and editing like adobe, roxio, pinnacle , etc...hope that helps.
