SOURCE: Problem playing DVD's

My DVD player once fell off a shelf and then stopped working. It would show the CyberHome background on the TV but did not play anything. I took all the screws off the outside, removed the metal shell, then there was the DVD tray with a metal covering (4 small screws). I could see below the tray was a connection that came undone rather easily. It controlled the spin motor I believe. I just reconnected it and it worked. I heard clicking noises because the lens/mirror apparatus was moving back and forth but the disk wasn't spinning. Hope this helps. Alex

When i load a DVD several clicks are heard then unable to read is displayed everything seem to be working ok.

Hello,

how long have you been using the player? Does it play VCD and Audio disc presently?

I think the reason your player is not reading the DVD plate is because the lens (laser) is weak.

You need to have it cleaned with lens cleaner and try again.

Take care.

Player unable to load discs when inserted

http://forum.videohelp.com/topic350059.html

I think I found these adjustments! There are two tiny surface-mount potentiometers (could be capacitors also) sitting in the small circuit on laser assembly.

this is exactly response I would like to hear - an expert opinion!

What I did with help of 1mm-wide screwdriver:

1) There were two surface-mount potentiometers marked with C1 and D. I tried first D. Turned it clock- and counterclockwise by about 45 degrees.
2) After each turn I opened and closed tray to force the player read DVD disc.
3) It did not help, "NO DISC", then I tried the same with C1, and again, no luck.
4) Finally, I came back to D and turned it by about 180 degrees in one direction. IT WORKED!!!

Moreover, seem that now player reads content of the DVD discs faster then before. Probably manufacturer did not really adjust it properly and upon the time something has degraded, so it failed eventually.

Some Home dvd players may not have any adjustment abilities, but you would find such things not too far away from the lense, if they don't exist, get a new unit.

When playing DVD no sound but VCD sound OK.

dvd are up to 6 times the density of a cd there making the laser eye read much closer rings on the disks. so in other words its having a hard time reading dvd. the only thing you can do is take a cotton swap dipped in alcohol and open the tray look with a flashlight for a small optical eye in exact center of dvd player and rub lightly on it to remove dust build up or spray some canned air into the dvd youll hit it. try it again and if no sound again the computer cant keep up with the dvd or vise versa.

DVD display indicates "no disc"

Try a lens cleaner cd, as when the lens gets misaligned or if it's quite old, it will find it harder to read a DVD as the tracks are much closer together than that of a VCD as they are cd's and their tracks are wider apart and easier to read.
