  1. Is it connected to your computer? Is it turned on? Make sure your usb/serial cable is plugged to the computer and the printer is on.
  2. Do you have drivers. Many computer users don't know about drivers. Drivers are like instructions necessary for the computer to recognize the printer. If you don't have the cd that came with your printer, search for drivers on the internet and download them, and install the software. It should work.

I have a Lesmark X 4270, showing error # 1203....how can I fix this?

Cartridge Error: 1203
Your print cartridge has a short.
1.Press Power to turn your All-In-One off.
2.Unplug your All-In-One from the wall outlet.
3.Plug in your All-In-One.
4.Reinstall the cartridges.
If this does not resolve the problem or replace your cartridges.

My Lexmark x5495 will not print. I get the message enable bidirectional communication. I am running XP operating system. What is the solution?

Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > right click on the Lexmark 5400 Series print object > Properties > Lexmark 5400 Series Properties window pops up, click on Ports tab > place a check mark in Enable bidirectional support by clicking in the box beside it. Hit Apply and click Ok to save the settings. Try to print. If problem persists, disconnect the printer usb cable from computer, uninstall the software completely by clicking on Windows logo Start menu > All Programs > Lexmark 5400 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Restart pc. To reinstalI, I recommend you use the software you can download from the Lexmark website. Just click on this link: http://bit.ly/cgn74X. Download and install the software. Follow the instructions. Try to print again. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

Error 5400? what is the problem and how do i fix?

the 5400 error is telling you there was excessive temperature in the printhead, and this error code will stop all printing attempts.

Unplug the power from the printer and leave it off for a hour and then check the pins inside the carriage and clean them and clean the contacts on the back of the head.

HP Deskjet 5400 Printing problems

Normal 0 Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

I HAVE SOFTWARE INSTALLED FOR MY LEXMARK X4210 BUT CAN FIND NO SETUP SHEET TO ENABLE ME TO COPY PAPER DOCUMENTS AND PRINT THEM. COULD YOU EMAIL ME ONE PLEASE?

Thanks for choosing fixya.com

There is usually a button on the top of the scanner/printer that will say "Copy" This will scan the document then print it out. You can also open the software that came with the printer that you have installed and it should have a "scan" option. This will allow you to first scan the document, modify it or save to your computer, then re-print it.

You may also be able to download a pdf version of the manual from www.lesmark.com

Hope this helps out.

Vista

Re: Vista and Print Server check out a reply from 2006 at:

I need HP Printer Driver for Vista - DriverHeaven.net

gave hint to use hp deskjet 5400 driver instead of the hp business inkjet 2230 driver i have been trying for days with my Netgear PS101 print server (v1?). Finally works, at least for a complete looking test page and the preferences for the 5400 printer seem clearer than those given for the 2230. maybe that is why print servers and printers are not working...it is the driver supplied by HP is wacko for vista?
