The printer display repeatedly told me to put papers into the tray and hit OK, which actually had plenty of papers, about 30 sheets. I took out the papers and put them back neatly time after time and hit OK accordingly, but the printer simply would not pick up papers. Please advise a solution.

This error means that the media in tray XX doesn't meet the specified standard of the tray. The specified tray is loaded with media that is longer or shorter in the feed direction than the size configured for the tray. Please check the paper size in current tray or touch OK to change the tray.
To resolve this issue Touch OK to display tray size. Reconfigure the size in the tray so that it uses size of media required for the print job. If the message doesn't clear automatically from the control-panel display, turn the MFP off, and then turn the MFP on.
Restart the printer and repeat the above procedure if issue is not resolved.
Not sure what printer you have but most consumer models don't actually detect paper in the tray. These machines will give an out of paper error if the paper is not picked up from the tray.
If the machine sounds like it is trying to pick up the paper but giving the error check and clean the pick up roller and look for something blocking the paper path.
hope this helps
My HP OfficeJet 7310 behaved correctly on the automatice paper feed for a long time and then began to be unable to pick up the page or would grab 2 or 3 pages at once. I was about to spend the $$$ to replace it, maybe $400 at that time. Instead I watched it work again and angin or not work. Noice the 1 inch square piece of cork? I went to Hobby Lobby and for less than $2 bought a roll of very thin cork. I cut an inch square and replaced the one on the machine and it has worked perfectly since. I still have 99% of the cork roll. What it?
most printers are pretty cheap now so replacement is always an option....on the other hand, I will spend countless hours trying to figure out what is wrong first. Remove all paper first, open printer and check for pieces of torn paper or debris, if you have a can of air you can blow out the insides to clean. Put 3 or 4 sheets of paper in, print a test page and watch carefully how paper advances...is it straight or crooked when being loaded? Is printer trying to pull more than 1 sheet at a time? Good luck
