Although the WebUpdater should always be the first stop, the instructions do state that you need to have full charge to ensure you don't "brick" the unit.
I've had the unit about 3 years. I already replaced one battery for this issue. I got the new battery, charged it up, and was happy. Several months later I tried to charge it up again, and got the same "Battery Missing" message. It can't be the battery!
I think it's when the battery is COMPLETELY discharged the battery can't be properly detected. You have 2 choices:
1-Leave the unit on the charger for several hours. It may trickle in enough power to recognize the battery eventually.
2-The other option is NOT AUTHORIZED by Garmin, and you do it at your own risk! Find a 12v car charger you don't need. Expose the wires if necessary. Tape the positive to the contact on the far right of the battery, the negative to the middle, and nothing to the left (that's a data connection). Plug the 12v car charger in, and let it sit for a few minutes, not long or the battery could overheat.
I left it on for under 10 minutes. When I inserted the battery back in the unit, it recognized the battery immediately and happily charged the battery.
Long term, this is probably not an ideal solution. The voltages might not match, there are computer chips in the battery that are designed to receive power the "Garmin" way, and you could severely damage the battery (even explode?).
But if it's this or trashing a $700 unit, it might be worth a try.

Why is my pac chirping?

If your UPS chirps repeatedly, and is connected to power, it generally indicates a failing battery(s). Your UPS's LED indicator which shows the status of the battery may not accurately indicate this. Typically UPS batteries don't last more than 3 years.

How to have the battery life show on the screen ?

The battery indicator will only show on the screen in the upper right-hand corner of the screen when the unit is NOT connected to an external charger. When the charger is connected, the unit is running off of external power. The unit has to be running on battery power in order to display the battery status icon.

I cant get sat nav to stay powerd on in the car.willpower up on computer but wont stay charged

Any time the unit will not stay powered after an external power source has been removed is an indication that the battery is failing. A Nuvi 205 is a pretty old unit. If the battery has never been changediast2 years, I would recommend having it replaced. info here:

Does "battery missing" on a Garmin GPS simply mean

There's no fee needed for help. I have to admit - I've never heard of this error on Garmin units, but there's always a first. It would help to know which Garmin you're talking about. Could you please leve the model name or number?

"Battery missing" would indicate that there is absolutely no charge left in the battery - which would make the GPS believe none is present. Attempt a recharge if you can. More info will come once I know which GPS you have.

Brand new Garmin Nuvi 1490 T out of the box. How do I charge it? The only devices in box were a car charger (my commute is 5 minutes daily) and a USB connector? Should I just plug the USB into my computer?...

Garmin satnavs come with a charge out of the box.
In some cases your device may have lost a charge during shelf life. In this case you can charge these units in three ways:
  1. Place unit on computer with USB cable for approximately 8-12 hours
  2. Place unit on Garmin specified AC adaptor for approximately 4-6 hours
  3. Place unit on 12V vehicle adaptor for approximately 4-6 hours.
Some cars continue to supply power to the cigarette lighter socket when turned off and others don't. If yours doesn't you can charge it from your computer. There's no indicator to show that it's charging or when it's charged. However when you disconnect the satnav from the computer and turn it on there's a battery state indicator which shows if it's fully charged or not.

Suddenly I have a blank screen. Was working just fine a minute ago!

It sounds like this might be a battery problem. Have you tried resetting the unit? Turning the vehicle off should NOT shut the GPS off instantly. It should indicate that the external power was lost and ask if you want to continue on battery power (shutting off in 30 seconds if you do not reply). Is this what it did?

My Garmin 276c indicates "Battery Missing" even with a new Batt.

Check the battery contact points inside the unit. There may be a thin film of crud (oxidation) that prevents contact, especially if the previous battery had any signs of corrosion.

Is m Garmin nuvi 200 GPS charging

Merritt, Your Garmin Nuvi does not have a charging indicator similar to say your Cell ph. Simply a battery charge indicator scale. Normal full charge time is approximately 3 to 4 hr. If you looking to ensure your unit is in fact charging Plug in & then remove the connection, Your unit will pop-up a screen to request if you wish to remain on battery power. I hope this helps you.

Garmin 478 powers up then 3-5minutes powers down then i will turn on again then will turn off again

Hello mrbill254,

The rechargeable battery in your GPS receiver may be going bad. Over the lifetime of the battery the amount of operating time you can expect in between charges will naturally decrease until the battery gets to a point where it is no longer able to power the unit. That may be what is happening.

Unfortunately most GPS batteries are not considered to be user replaceable. You should contact Garmin to find out about battery replacement service.

Best Regards!

Indicator lights are blinking.

The Indicator Lights On The SC-X105L External Cam Are Blinking And Will Not Power Off. If both of the indicator lights on the external camera module blink and the external module cannot be powered off, this indicates that the batteries are in need of replacement.
