DVD-R discs that I have previously recorded on with this player, but not yet finalized, will not be read by the player later on. I'm even having trouble with the player not reading some commercial DVDs.
Also when I try to record on a new DVD-R disc, it will record from TV for about 10 minutes and then just stop recording.
Can you please help me with a possible solution?
Thank you
Richard.
Your player is overheating very fast that's the reason why it stops recording. Furthermore, heat affects the lens that's why it stops and wont continue recording. What you can do is try to clean the lens first by using lens cleaner as suggested by others. Other than that, you can try installing a much bigger heat sink or replacing the fan inside the player with turbo cooling capability. If you have no idea on how to install a heat sink or replace the fan, have it serviced by a good dvd/cd player tech.
Hi,
Initially, pls try:
This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.
Post/comment back any updates/development. Appreciate your use of Fixya and good luck.
A reset will not resolve this problem. A cleaning disc will not help either. You can try cleaning the lens directly using a cotton swab and alcohol, but that is not likely to resolve it either. Since the unit will read a disc for a while, it suggests a problem that is heat related. A power supply problem can cause this as can a defective processing chip inside. Without taking measurements and seeing some waveforms on a scope, remote diagnosis is near impossible. If this is a repeated problem, it is likely that the problem was not entirely fixed the first time. What was done to the machine the first time it went in for repair?

If there's a option the reset the player try resetting it first then you can also follow the suggestion of Expert Ekse to use a dvd cleaner to clean the lens of your player...
Hope that helps.........
This player you are using has some trouble reading discs(DVD and CD)...its not good in reading all type of discs.... there might be a fault with the lens of the player also... better contact your nearest LG service people to fix it
Try cleaning the lens.
heres a dvd lens cleaner, look for something similiar

If cleaning the lens doesn't fix the problem, it might need to get the lens replaced or possibly a new digital board. Most likely it will have to be serviced.
If the dvd player is still underwarranty, lg should fix it for you, contact lg or your dealer about that.
a possible fix would be unless the lens cleaning doesn't solve it. and it should.
but if it doesn't the lens might need to be realinged.
I'm not too fimiliar with realinging the lens / focus, its something that came to me last night thinking about possible fixes.

Usually answered in minutes!
I have tried many times to reset the machine by turning on and off at the socket and by cleaning thoroughly each disc that I want the player to read. After about 3-4 minutes of trying to read the disc, the player ejects the disc.
Any other possible tips I could try before going to a repair shop (only went 10 months ago to have the same problem looked at) would be useful.
Thank you.
