My ice and water dispenser is leaking

I just moved into a house that has a kenmore fridge. I have no idea how to load the water for water and ice in the fridge and my friend just poured some water in the container. It leaked all over the place. What do I do?

hmmm. I seriously have no idea what most of that means. I'm refrigerator illiterate. lets see um it's black and it has a bucket thing in the fridge for water and it says press here to remove ice tray? I'm not sure how it works. would it be better if I took a picture and posted it? I'm new at this. I've honestly never had a refrigerator with a self ice and water before this is my first home so I'm used to apartment and my parents fridges which are just two door with nothing special.

well we knocked down the original house (we kept the appliances) and built a new one since the old one was in such horrible condition(collapsing in on itself) we basically bough the land. I'll talk to the contractors since they also put everything in (very good at everything type people). Thank you!

I am not an expert on refrigerators, but generally you hook a 1/4" (copper or plastic) line to a solenoid valve to the back of your refrigerator, which you then hooks up to a filter, which then ties into an existing compression fitting, or saddle tap on a cold water line (usually on the kitchen sink). Some refrigerators have a place for a filter to fit which runs to the cold water, and not an exposed rear solenoid.

If you can get the model number, which can be in a number of place (top, bottom, inside door), and is probably a white or silver tab, than I can further look into it. Like I said, I am not an expert, but I am pretty good at figuring things out. The few refrigerators that I am familiar with despensed their own water/ice without the need to manually fill it.

I did a little research. The numbers that you gave me are consistent with model numbers for the Kenmore, but I could not find any specifics to that model number. I still adhere that there should be some connections on the back of the refrigerator where a 1/4" line connects to a water supply. I would suggest that you give the back a good exam, and if --like you said the refrigerator came with the house, than I would look for a connection under the kitchen sink, cold water supply, side to see if there is a line or a fitting for a line. It could possibly be still connected but just shut off. As an additional suggestion if you have what is called a saddle tap, NEVER turn the water on/off at this tap because they are notorious for breaking and then leaking all over the place. Always turn off the water at the shutoff on that side under the sink instead. If you find a saddle tap under your sink that is connected to the fridge, and it is closed, shut off the main valve, then SLIGHTLY (thats all it takes) open the saddle tap, than open the main valve. Do this in order to alleviate any runaway leaks.

Here is a link that may help you in further determining what you/I are looking at. You can also contact them. There are also pictures of connections such as saddle taps, supply lines, etc. on this site. http://fixitnow.com/refrigerator-repair-...

I just bought a used kenmore elite side by side refrigerator and hooked up the water line to the back of the fridge. My question is where does the long water line the goes to the fridge and comes back...

Where you hook the house water line is to the water inlet valve which is a one in two out solonoid controlled valve. One side goes to the water dispenser in the door and the other hooks to the ice maker connection.

So I suspect the long water line you are talking about has had the lines switched at the valve and needs reversed. The long line probably goes up the back of the unit and connects to the ice maker. The one for the water dispenser should hook to the water chiller resevoir and then to the water dispenser.

Does water in door dispenser taste bad? If not, Try arm and hammer fridge deoderizer. It will help to absorb fridge odors which may be clinging to water molecules in ice maker tray. Ice maker tray is open to freezer area.Water is very medium to infiltrate with odors. Try this first

only two things this could be, either your water valve is bad or your icemaker is bad. you can get a kit which comes with both for a little over a hundred bucks, and you can change them yourself.

Water dispenser dripping

Your house valve may not be totally closed (bad seal or something) letting a small bit of water through. Disconnect the line to the fridge completely (in the back) to be sure. That way even if the fridge solenoid valve is bad AND the house valve is bad you won't get dripping. If you know the valve is good, there are times when the water filter will have air trapped in it letting the water in the line drip out slowly until it's finally empty. Pull any filters you have also.
