Motorola T5000 Two Pack 2-Way Radio

When i transmit to one of my Motorola T5000 2-way radios, it makes a crackily sound through its speaker. When the problem one makes its own sounds (beeps and calls) it is okay though. There is only a problem when it recieves a transmit from another 2-way radio.

Generally a crackling sound coming through a speaker indicated the speaker is damaged (or blown). This can happen due to phyical damage such as dropping; old age' or running the device at full volume most of the time. The T5000 is a non-repairable radio. If less than one year old you may be able to get it replaced under warrranty. If more than one year old, you will need to replace the unit.

Check your programming, it sounds like your Code is not set the same between the two radios. Here is a link to the user guide Choose your model from the page or the pulldown.

Parts are not available for this model radio. Speakers generally are damaged from debris or moisture getting into the speaker. They are especially susceptible to small metal fragments due to the magnetic properties of the speaker.

Cannot receive or transmit

A few items to check:
Be certain both radios are set to the same:
Interference Eliminator Code
Qt filter

For a simple test set the Code, Qt filter, and any other special features to off or zero. This will allow you to find out if the radios will work simply on their frequency. Once you establish this, you can add in the features as you need them.

Best regards.

I hunt in a remote area. Will the t5000

If your farm radios are FM UHF radios, it is possible they could communicate if programmed to match one another. You would need to limit your wattage on the farm radios to 1/2 watt on the FRS (family radio service) channels, which are in the T5000.

Your T5000 will NOT match CB (citizen band radios).

Best regards.

Motorola T5000 Rx problem

Hi SirDrag,

Your concern could be the internal speaker of the T5000. This could be verified by attaching an external speaker or a headset compatible with the unit through its accessory jack. Should this be the case, it of course would require replacement. Though Motorola speaker for this model is proprietary in design, those made for Alinco, Icom, Kenwood and/or Yaesu should also work. The only concern would be getting one that will fit the physical mounting limitations of the front cover.

In some instances, it could be the volume control developing blind spots along its carbon pad. A spray from an electronic contact cleaner should do the job (albeit temporary).

It is also possible that the Interference Eliminator Code setting is different with that of the TX radio.

Worst case possibility is a defective electronic component (such as the op amp) which would then require the professional services of a qualified communications technician.

Hope that this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
