Recording problem

the problem is not in your video recorder than to your video cassette, the Underside of the tape on the left side needs to have a little plastic, if it does, then put a little sticky tape insulating {}, because without it you can not to record it ..... . if after this no records should then take video recorder repair service ....... Good luck ....

My video cassette recorder will only record in black and white now.

If the electronics haven't crapped out, it's likely dirty. It takes considerably more signal to have color than B&W. Cleaning the heads should help. If you don't know how, let me know and I'll walk you through it.

Alternately, a few of the VHS and 8mm units had a black and white mode setting in the menus. Recording B&W movies in color mode caused some oddball effects, from time to time, so they offered a B&W mode. It was a short lived option because people didn't want to bother with it, and it occasionally got enabled accidentally, leading to complaints and visits to service centers.

Sony SLV-640HF VHS VCR ejects any tape after a couple of seconds

While the tape may appear to be loading properly, it is not. These units have a known problem with the grease at the loading arm getting sticky. This means that the tape is not loaded properly and will not move through the VCR properly. This is detected as the hubs not moving and the unit will eject the tape to prevent damage. This is a simple repair for anyone that has done these before, but requires an alignment check. This check requires a special alignment tape and equipment.

This should be a labor only repair.

Recording Problems

Hi.

Yes.
Most tv sets with freeview built in do not allow you to record it.
Check your tv instruction manual to see if it is at all possible.
