What are possible causes of a ticking sound at engine startup?

Check your oil is it clean and clear or dark even black if its thinned from fuel or just warn it will cause this if oil is good maybe wrong oil used? It sounds like to me the sound is your lifters and the tick when they bleed down till they pump up again main cause is a long time of setting or oil issues

Have a 2001 7.3 power stroke that started making a different sound not real agressive but I can tell a diffence and the oil pressure guage recently stoped working at idle

Check first ur oil level and oil filter and oil flow if good next ur oil pressure switch next ur oil pump need to tap pressure gage where oil pressure switch is to see if pump is working properly at idle and need to check cylinder pressure to be close to equal also crank and cam bearing is a possibility for sound detection. Good Luck

Tapping sound when starting or shutting off the engine

Sounds of low oil pressure or oil need changed to thin. Either you need an oil pump or your engine is old and you need to rebuilt it. See the crank and rod bearings create pressure the pump pumps it up. Even if you install a new pump and crank bearing are low. Pressure will be low.

I hav 2001 ford taurus 3.0 single head cam engine makes noise , mechanic said that oil pressure is low n need change oil pump. but oil light not comes on always, it becames on only driving, when I...

That sounds like a pump... the oil pump is inside of the engine. You need to drop the oil pan to gain access - however, you will need to pull the motor to do that.

2003 VW PASSAT. Check engine light goes on and

8.5 hrs + parts sounds about right. But why would a 7 year old cars oil pump fail? They usually last a lifetime. Has there been a lubrication problem? Low oil, cheap oil, wrong oil? But then again my daughters 04 Toyota needed a valve job, head gasket and water pump recently. I'm doing 90% of work and it still cost about $2000. Her problem was bad oil!

It has low oil pressure, ticking sound, and loss in power

You are in need of a new oil pump, drop the oil pam off and replace the pump, DO NOT DRIVE THIS UNTIL THE LOW OIL PRESSURE IS REPAIRED OR YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE

Mechanic replaced timing chain but rattling noise still happens. he said it could be the oil pump or the chain that runs the oil pump? was replacing the timing chain needed?

Replacing the timing chain is done around 100,000 miles, but can last as long as 200,000.
Sounds like something may be on its way out, and a rattle does indicate a chain. Not all oil pumps use chains...many use gears to spin the oil.
Most people know when it needs replacement when they are calling for a tow truck.
It could be your water pump as well. It is hard to tell where the sound comes from sometimes. A stethescope may help pin-point the sound to the part.
Good Luck!
