Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

Canon Powershot A70: LCD screen went blank - I can still access all menu functions (timer, resolution etc), but the screen is completely black otherwise. If i take a picture using the manual view finder, all i get is a completely black photograph. Occasionally, i see a glitter or two on the screen which is black and white (kind of like an unsynced TV image), but then it disappears pretty quickly

I had a A70 that would still take pictures, but the screen did not show a picture. I did some research and found that this is somewhat a common problems with some of the Canon Powershots to include the A70 where the LCD screens expire. I believe that if the camera gets too hot, such as being left in a vehicle the LCD seperates. I sent my camera to Canon and they fixed it for free. It took about 4-6 weeks to receive my camera back, and now it works perfectly. They did a great job on communicating with me, and fixing the issue. I think that alone is worth buying a Canon. The link below should help you.

Canon PowerShot Dropped: Blank Screen

For Ravi, this definitely sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/canon-digital-cameras-showing-black.html

By the way, don't tell Canon that you dropped the camera. Sounds like the CCD imager was about to go bad anyway, and the drop just accelerated this.
