Question about Pioneer AVIC-F900BT Car GPS Receiver
I purchased the AVIC-F900BT and the CD-IU230V. The 230V utilizes the USB connection. I would like to still be able to utilize a USB device (e.g. thumb drive) when not using the iPod. I had the installer use a USB Hub to see if it was possible. The manual clearly states connection of the 230V via a Hub is not possible. I do recognize that. That said, the iPod does appear to work when connected via the Hub. However, when a thumb drive is attached, the USB icon remains greyed out. This is true whether the 230V USB connector is plugged into the Hub or not. The iPod icon doesn't replace the USB icon in the AV selection menu until the iPod is actually attached to the 230V. That's what leads me to believe that it may be possible to use a USB device when not using the iPod. Since I don't appear to be able to do so I'd like to know if there is a definitive explanation for what is preventing that or better yet, if maybe I'm just doing something wrong. The only thing I can surmise is that the USB is slaved to the iPod once the other connections on the 230V are made to the head unit? It would sort of make sense but I can't believe I'm the only person who would like to use an iPod but still have the option of plugging in a USB drive.
The IPOD USB is attached to the USB port near the IPOD connector. If you follow that back you have to disconnect the ipod cable from the USB port then you can use the flash drive in that port. it is an either or situation.
