Help please!!
I have burnt several DVDs using several brands of DVD blanks. After some time, say four to six months, when I play aome of them, at the end of the movie it suddently freezes and the film refuses continue. Toichng the freeze fram, or play buttons or any other buttons on the remote control gives no help. After a few minutes, the player stops. Can you imagine this situation in a film like Psycho??? Upon checking the discs, I can see no physical damage at all. Careful cleaning doesn't help. My storage situation is fine, No moisture or high temperature. Other discs work fine using my player. Are the discs deteriorating? Am I using bad blanks? Thank you!!!

None at all - the DVD player has a chipset that is incompatible with that type of disk.
Check the player manual for the disk types it can handle

My friend suggested I clean the dvd optical reader lens inside the player with a fine brush (like a camera brush with a blower bulb). This seemed to help immensely. I'm not certain if this is just a temporary fix, but it seems to be ok so far.

It looks like you have a lens problem, DVD and CD use a different error correction and different track format.
A dirty lens can read CD but not DVD.
Tru first using a lens cleaner like this ones:
If it does not work you can try cleaning the lens directly with cotton and isopropyl alcohol, you will need to undo the screws at the button and to take apart the cover. Unplug power when doinfg this.
If it still does not work, since you aready reinstalled the firmware, the lens may be faulty.
You can order the lens pickup from factory and replace it.

The solution is simple.I rang LG service (so called - LOL)
Asked for a fix or reset method. (Which can be done but they won't tell novices how)
Got no joy, so now I will bin it,and spend the rest of my days telling people to avoid LG.
After all the posts I have since read about the same problem on various LG models,it is obvious their product sucks, they know it does, but won't accept the responsibility.
If I stop 4 people buying their ****,that's at least $1000 they miss out on.
If the process snowballs,how much then$$ ?
It would cost me $120 just to get it to and pick it up from the repair place.
Plus parts and labour added.
Before buying an LG DVD recorder go online and check out how many dissatisfied customers there are. In short, DO NOT BUY !!
