It could be an issue with faulty capacitors around the IC's as well. You can make out which are faulty, because their caps willbe swollen on top. Here's a sample pic of a bust capacitor (not same model):

Check the specifications of the faulty capacitors, and get the replacementsfrom your local electronics shop. If you are comfortable with this, you can usea pair of needle nose pliers to G-E-N-T-L-Y pull out the defunct capacitors.Once that is done, solder in the new capacitors carefully. If are unsure how todo this, try to get a friend who knows how to do this kinda stuff do it foryou, or get a qualified technician. Warning: If you do nothave a background in electronics repair, or are inexperienced, get a qualifiedtechnician to do it for you.

REMEMBER there are very dangerous voltages inside a TVthat can KILL. Be sure to work SAFE when dealing with electricity. DISCONNECTTHE POWER BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.

Hope that helps!

The problem is most likely the STKxxxx convergence output ic's. There are two, one for red and one for blue. Change them both, the blue one will also be going soon. They are not expensive.

OR
Sounds like the classic cracked solder joints. If the color is spreading out over the screen you do not want to touch the convergence controls just yet. Pull the convergence board and using a strong magnifier, look very close at all the solder joints, especially on the Modules. I have fixed many of these problems just by re-soldering cracked solder joints. If the convergence was "in and good" before it started having this problem then this should bring it back to normal. However,if you play with the convergence controls prior to re-soldering then get ready to do some serious alignment time just to get it back to the way it had been before. Change the red convergence STK and you will not need to adjust the convergence.

OR
Convergence output devices [ 3 ] change them, inspect both + - supplies to convergence ciruiit. Check for open fuse devices

OR
Check R540, a 1 ohm resistor off the flyback. Check the supplies to the vertical ckt. Derived from the FBT, etc. Also check connections to/from yokes

OR
Check the pin output transistor and associated capacitors. Usually the area around the transistor is discolored from excessive heating of the transistor. Also check the other active components in the pin ckts.

Suspect components on the convergence adjust/output panel, check for poor solder connections, bad electrolytic caps, etc.

Please confirm voltage supply on replaced STK ICs approx +21volts and -21volts.
If these voltages are not present, STK ICs will not function.

It is called Convergence. You have three CRTs. Red, blue, Green. When they are not aligned, you will see the individual colors. See if you can do some alignment in the users menu. Look for Converge or Convergence in the menu. Either under video or setup.

55 inch mitsubishi rear projection tv red lamp out of adjustment

Have convergence IC's replaced. I believe this unit uses STK-392-570 convergence IC's Only one has gone bad but replace them both, because if one has failed then the other is not far behind, for Blue and Green. One handles Red, One handles BLUE and Grn. There are only two of them in the set, They are the two largest IC's in the entire set.

Your reference to concave picture suggests a high voltage problem and not convergence. If the raster can't scan from left to right , top to bottom, your having High voltage trouble. if your colors are not dropping on top of each other that is convergence. I would suggest it may be time to consider a purchase of the new HD set for the cost of this repair. good luck

Out of focus

You have a convergence problem, probably the convergence electronics are going out or the TV has been violently moved and needs a mechanical alighnment. Small adjustments can be made from the menu.
