How to change a belt on model no. 110.22882101

Please help. The spinner stopped spinning and I smelt a burnt rubber smell. We took it all apart, found the belt at the bottom. And crazy, we cut it off as it was mishapen and worn. How do we access it, where does it go, and what is the number to replace. The belt number or placement is not in our repair parts list.

yes. the model is right. What happened was I washed a heavy, flannel quilt that I made. It was a rag quilt that had a lot of fraying. So either the lint or the weight... I went down to the machine and the quilt was soaking wet and I smelt this burnt rubber smell. I tested the machine...it fills, agitates, drains but will not spin. My husband and I took apart the machine, towards the bottom was this warped rubber oval like belt that we cut off. (thinking we could take it in and get a replacement) But who knows what that was. We live 3 hours away from the city in a small, remote area. Any tips?

Are you sure you have the make and model number correct? The reason I ask is because the model number you provided is for a Kenmore DIRECT-DRIVE transmission. There is no drive belt for this model washer. That would also explain why there is no belt listed on a repair parts list.

Smell rubber

i have found that when people start smelling things in the dryer it's from chemicals from like paint or varnish, all the dryer does is move air when it gets hot you start smelling it.you can pull it apart and check the belt and rollers but your dryer has the lint filter on top and there isn't anything in there that could really make it smell,on some of these dryers the belt pulley doesn't have a wheel on it,the pulley is just a piece of metal with no moving parts and the belt rubs on the pulley but i've never smelt anything from that, like i say usually it's from having your floors done over the smell from the polyurethane coating or from paint can make the dryer smell.go here to take dryer apart

Notice a "rubber"smell this winter. The lint vent is clean after each use, outside vent is clear of any debris. can the wind blow smell back into house or is it a belt? Installed new by dealer 1/9/13.

Load was to heavy and I smelt burnt rubber now no spin

Hi

Older top load washers use a belt to drive to transfer the energy from motor to drum. However, if the belt slips, stretches, or breaks, it can cause friction and a burning smell, most likely a burning “rubber” smell. The belt is located either from the back access panel or from the underside of the washer. The solution is to replace the belt with a new one. To replace the belt you can open the back lid of the washer

To replace the belt carefully pry up on front washer top to release plastic keeper pins, remove 2 Phillips screws from beneath lower front washer panel, slightly lift upward on panel to release. Now remove old broken belt, push new belt beneath large tub pulley and put belt on small motor pulley. After this push back belt tension /idler arm, start belt on large tub pulley, turn tub pulley by hand to run belt on, release tension on idler arm. Replace front panel and lower top.

Please check this diagram for the part number F28(drive belt)--

Please post back for any further assistance.

Thanks
Daniel

Washing machine stopped working and smells like burt rubber

Sorry about that I did not notice the word "Belt" in the paragraph. The belt may be slipping. Even though it looks fine it may not be. You can normally tell if you're able to access the belt right after running it, turn off the washer and unplug it. Feel the belt or the idler pulley it's attached to. Quickly though because it may be very hot! If it is then chances are that you need a new belt. Overloading a washer from time to time can wear out the portion of the belt that contacts the pulley causing it to slip.

I had this same problem. The brush roll wouldn't spin, smoke came out, and it smelled like burning rubber. I changed the belt thinking that would fix the problem but it didn't, so I took the belt back off and checked the motor shaft in the back and found a whole bunch of hair wrapped around the shaft. Once I cut out the hair with some scissors and replaced the belt, everything worked like normal. I hope this helps.

Washing machine was making noise when agitating & spinning

This sure sounds like a bad transmission. Turn the transmission by hand to feel and listen to it. It should be smooth and quiet.
