Kenmore dryer won't stay on. Starter switch works, but as soon as you take your finger off the switch it shuts off

When the problem started, it shut off mid-cycle, when it was running. Could a door switch do that? BTW; It's gas dryer.

After a lot of diagnostics, it was the main circuit panel ($150+labor). I should have just purchased a new dryer.

Hi,

It sound`s to me based on your description, the start relay/switch is faulty. (the other unlikely possibility is the start switch in the motor).

If you call a local part`s supplier or check out searspartsdirect.com, apwagner, partsdepot, repairclinic etc. with your model & serial number, they should have that part for you.

Hope that help`s you. Please take a second and rate the information provided to you here at fixya.

Thanks for visiting fixya and good luck.

My kenmore drying door won't stay shut I've replaced the latch and catch and it will stay shut for a little while and then pops open?

if you don't mind 'jury rigging' it, you could tape a simple velcro strip to it. 1 piece of the 'hook' side on each side of the door. and 1 long piece of the 'loop' side to go across both pieces of 'hook'. i suggest this pattern because no one likes to grab the 'hook' side with their fingers.
sometimes working is more important than working correctly. good luck

Dryer shuts off when let go of the on button

If the motor stops when the button is released check the motor relay switch. If the motor runs but the flame goes out check the flame sensor.

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor

Dryer will not run

Hello tomechkojr,
Many dryer motors have a centrifcal switch on the motor that should allow the motor to continue operating after you remove the momentary start switch. Chances are, that motor switch is hanging up and not actuating to keep power on to the motor. Keep me posted and I'll follow along with you to help..
