you can log into the netgear.

the ip address and the password are usuall underneath it.

connect it to yout laptop or pc and login using the details. once logged in, you will be prompted to insert new services provider details, or if its a DHCP connection and you have your router plugged into the wireless netgear, it will pickup the settings, all you will need to do is define SSID (wireless name) and password.

any probs let me know

I have an hp comp that wont connect to my netgear internet access

Define/explain "wont connect".

Are you trying to use an Ethernet cable to connect the two devices? If so, try a different cable, to rule-out a "bad" cable.

Do you have any software like "Norton Internet Security" on the HP? It is notorious for "blocking" attempts to connect to "unknown" networks.

Does your desktop computer have a wireless networking adapter that you are trying to configure/use?

Will any other computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, connect to the NetGear router? If not, then maybe the NetGear is the problem.

Any error-messages when you try to "connect" ??
Exact wording?

If you mean phone modem on PC then no. Check connection between pc and router by acessing the webinterface (instuctions in linksys user manual).

If all OK there then contact your ISP.

NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Wireless Router (WPN824NAR) Wireless connection drops in and out regularly but frequency of this is unpredictable duration is usually a few seconds. Works find on direct ethernet...

Upgrade the Firmware of the router :
First you should check the version of you WPN824 (v1,v2 or v3). If there are no Version after the model number, it should be a version 1. Download the Firmware of your router given the correct version at this link :

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WPN824.asp

This is assuming that other wireless laptops has the same problem onyour wireless router. If other Laptops works great on your wirelessrouter without dropping any wireless connection, then you shouldconsider upgrading the wireless adapter on you own laptop.

***(If you haven't tried connecting otherwireless laptop wirelessly to the netgear, then you should try it firstto be sure that the netgear is the problem)

Steps on how to upgrade Netgear firmware :

  1. Download the correct file depending on your location and unzip the file to a convenient place such as your desktop.
  2. Log in the router at http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 (or www.routerlogin.net ) (Which ever will work)
  3. Default User name : admin / password : password
  4. Click Maintenance > Router Upgrade.
  5. Click Browse and locate the file you just downloaded.
  6. Click Upload. While the firmware is loading, do not interrupt the upgrade process.

***Therouter reboots when the upgrade is complete.
***Tocheck that the upgrade was successful, log in to the router again at http://192.168.1.1and check the firmware version.
***DONOT UPGRADE FIRMWARE USING A WIRELESS LAPTOP/PC

Hi,lost laptop wireless connection to my netgear WGT624v3. It detects the router is there but says 'aquiring network address' laptop works ok if i plug it direct to the hub port... any ideas appreciated....

try setting the channel to 11, but it depends on your location, for the best connection try finding the right channel that suites your locations.

sometimes there are alot of devices that can interfere with the signal coming from the router.

for your reference try this link for wireless range.

My computer doesn't connect to the wireless router. The router works, I can connect my Wi-Fi mobile phone to the router and get internet access

did you set up your wireless connection using a wired internet connection. i have a netgear wireless system and tried to set it up without being 'wired' but you can not do it that way. you have to be connected to set it up, then you can configure it, and after that it should be ok. i actually went back to a 'wired' connection cos the netgear was very unreliable

Wireless Connectivity lost

Greetings Roxie
Are you using XP or Vista?

The default ip address for a Netgear 192.168.0.1 - the default user is 'admin' and the default password is 'password'. Is it possible for you to run an ethernet cable from your PC to the router or from your laptop to the router so we can address its configuration?

Once you have connected the cable, wait about 30 seconds and then open Internet Explorer. In the address bar type 192.168.0.1

At this point the login to the router should come up. If it doesn't report back and let me know. If it does - log in using the default info I listed above. Verify that your connection type is DHCP. From there go to the wireless settings page. Make sure that wireless is enabled and make note of the name (SSID) of your network. Also take note of what channel you are broadcasting on. By default it is probably 6 but you should probably change it to 11. You can also enable or disable the security encryption from this page but lets disable encryption if it is not already disabled.

Once you have verified these items are present and enabled, save the routers configuration. Disconnect your laptop from the router. Unplug the power to the router. Unplug the power to the modem. Make sure all of the lights on the modem go out. Stand tall and sing our national anthem (wait about a minute) and then plug the modem back in. Once the online light has gone solid green plug the power back into the router.

Now go to your laptop and observe the little computer icon in the lower right by the clock. Does it indicate that there are networks available? If so - double click on it to see the available networks. Make sure you are connecting to YOUR network (the SSID we took note of earlier). If it says connected - you should be OK. If it says anything else let me know what it is. Good luck!

Try to use your laptop in the other wifi connection if it's work the problem is your router wifi configuration. But if cannot work try to check in device manager if your wifi device is working properly. in the RUN type DEVMGMT.MSC and look for your wifi device there if there is a ? mark it's mean that there is a complex configuration in the wifi. remove the wifi device in restart your computer the windows automatic detect the device in install it. try to connect if it is work but if still not work check for the ip and gateway configuration in the wifi setup.
