Hi.
Probably the inveter has failed. I had this poblem with mint too. Get this part http://www.mundocorp.com/shopexd.asp?id=375

The inverter is located in the lid of the laptop. It is not too easy to get to as you need to remove the case top screws, hinges and escutcheon around the disply. Then be careful not to damage any flex track connections.

I really do think you should get a tech to do it as you can easily damage the display.

When testin a power supply or led board on tv do i test dc or ac with multimeter?

Your power supply board is working if you get audio and imgaes.

You test AC only the AC side of the transformer before the Rectifier Diodes. Everything after the Diodes will be in DC.

did you get to see any spec of backlight as shown in

Wifes Acer laptop screen went black, power light is on, fan is running, but nothing comes up on the screen.... We're stumped...

If you reboot it and everything seems normal except there is no display, get a flashlight and examine the screen for a display with no backlight. Maybe it is just the back light power supply that has failed?
Hope that helps.

Everything works fine but backlight on display is

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please try the following

1) Press the fn key + up arrow key

The above key combination increases the brightness on the screen

If this fails you have a faulty inverter in your laptop, this is relativley cheap to repair

If option1 doesnt work, please book the laptop into a reputable PC shop

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Sound but no vision, black screen

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

Dell Inspiron 1100 powers up but screen stays black

You don't say whether or not your OS is starting. Is the sound letting you know it is? Either way it won't hurt to try this.

Turn it on and give it time to boot up. Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen while looking at it very closely. Slowly move the flashlight while changing the angle the light hits the screen at. If you happen to see your anything (logon screen, desktop wallpaper, icons, whatever), then that means your backlight has gone out. If you don't, there is a chance the LCD has gone bad. You can also connect an external monitor to it. Just don't forget to switch over to it ( [FN] + F8)!

BTW - I warn you that either of those can cost more to fix than that laptop is worth now...

IMAGE IS THERE SCREEN IS BLACK

This could be an inverter or backlight problem. If you are seeing the image as dim, then it could be with the inverter.

Gateway Solo 9550

If you can see a faint image of the desktop or the machine works with an external monitor, the either the screen inverter or the screen backlight has gone out. Start by checking the screen connections. The connection to the screen, screen to inverter and screen to motherboard. Connections can sometimes work loose. A loose connection generally causes the screen to go out entirely, rare but occasionally it can cause just the backlight to go. If the connections are good, then you will need to take it in to have the screen and inverter tested to find out which it is. If it turns out to be the backlight, you will have to purchase a new screen, screen are considered sealed units and just the backlight can't be changed out.

My Gateway Solo 9500

The LCD  is fine as you can see the display.

This is a backlight fault.

This may have been caused by dropping (breaking the backlight tubes) or the inverter circuit has become faulty.

This should not cost hundreds to repair.

I think you should talk to the seller with a view to getting your money back first though.

Green Light, no Display - Gateway FPD1730

I picked up a FPD1730 monitor for free which was just sitting out in my apartment hallway. I suspected something was wrong and sure e**ugh there was ** backlight, but I could see faint video when I shined a flashlight on it.

A quick Google search of the inverter model # led me to a German forum which suggested replacing the fuse labeled "F1" on the inverter board. I don't have a matching fuse on hand but I bridged the connection with a wire and sure e**ugh the backlight came back on. Short-circuiting like this is definitely **t 100% safe but if you can find a 4A fuse then it's a really cheap and quick fix.
