See if a different code works with the TV. I know that sometimes the first code to work will control some stuff but not all and another coe may work it all.

You can access the set up mode menu if you have the TV mode.
The DVD should be hook up to the TV using A/V inputs using yellow, red and white cables and select A/V 1 or any other input where the cables are connected to.

How can I get a samsung tv 488 on to AV permanently without a remote ar where can I buy a remote that WILL work the AV function ?

you able to select the input through the customer select menu by pressing the set up- or menu key on the tv itself, you can access your owners manual at the samsung website under SUPPORT and clicking downloads, bbut you will need a good model number, 488 does not show up in their records. You can get a universal remote that will pretty much do the basic functions, power, sound, channels and some universals will also work the menu, or click the partstore.com website and type in your brand name and model number, they will detail whatever is available for your particular tv.

Couple of questions:  I have a Rear Screen Hitachi 50 something TV that I got from my late uncle, and want to find out the following: How can I tell which model I own? I assume the model number is...

A universal remote will allow you to access all the necessary functions, and depending on the remote that you plan on using, a lot of the time you can use the more advanced functions as well.
If you have the remote working, you can access the model number through the menu settings as well. Get to the generic menu, go to the very bottom of the list where you will see hardware settings or just settings, from there you will see an option that says either hardware information, or information or even just one that says about. If you click on that you can generally find the model number and serial number of the TV.
If you're using a generic "less expensive" universal remote the code for your TV will depend on the exact model number. And you'll have to crawl in behind the TV to get that information then, sometimes you can access the menu from the buttons along the front/side of the TV but not always (impossible to know for sure without knowing the model number of your TV). Sometimes you can fake the remote settings if you punch in the code for any Hitachi TV, guess at how old the TV is and find a number in a code that is about the same size as the TV.

Lost the original remote for my sylvania tv and the closed caption is on. how do i get this off my screen without remote?

If there is no on screen menu option, accessible from the console, that you can switch off, the answer to your
question is "You can't".....without obtaining a universal remote that you will install using the codes for the
function of your particular set, and since you have a rear projection model (61 inches, wow!!) every universal
remote normally used for the purpose of home entertainment theater setups will have the code for your set.

Enjoy!!

Need to program remote for TV and DVD both are Panasonic, and i have the original remote. Thank You

I own a One-for-All universal remote (model URC-4220), and my booklet says that the setup code for a Panasonic TV (with a built-in DVD) is 1490. If your TV and DVD are two separate pieces of equipment, which are hooked up together, then the setup code is either 0051 or 0250.
Hope these numbers help you out. Please take a moment to rate this info, by using the rating system below. Thanks.

It's easy, you just have to go back into the menu setup for the auto channel/tuner setup and rescan for channels. I'd noticed this as well when playing around with the tv when I'd bought it and it had done the same to me.
