You should be able to use your router without any driver using the ethernet cable or wireless.

Let me know if you need help to connect.

How can i install my 2wire1701hg gateway routter i dont have cd to run the software

If you connect an RJ45 network cable from the router to a near by pc/laptop, open a web browser and type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar, you may be asked for a username/password if the router responds which is normally printed on a small label and stuck to the side of the router. Once you've got access it's just a question of entering the details provided to you by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Manuals for the 1701hg can be found at this link and can be downloaded in pdf format.

check first if you computer communicate with router, from router it can communicate with hub (internet provider) and check if your ip range act as router or a bridge.

I have a two wire router trying to hook up to run my laptop

You need to run from the DSL modem into the ethernet port at the very top of the 1701hg. Use your other 4 ports below to send one the computer and one to your vonage. You will no longer need to "jump" though your vontage unit. Other than connecting the power cables, you are all hooked up.

2Wire 1701hg gateway- Broadband Access problem

hi! have you used this other identical 2wire modem before? if this other 2wire modem (is it the same 1701hg?) well you may need to configure the settings first. also 1000 series modems usually have 3 lights on it; power, broadband link, and local network. if these 3 lights are on, you may need to access the modem's user interface. assuming that all lights are green, on your computer directly attached to the 2wire, open up any browser, type in gateway.2wire.net. it will give you the network at a glance page. click on run system setup wizard, type in the system password. on the ppp authentication page, please check if it has your username & password (this is the one that you set up on your internet acct w/ your ISP), the next screen will establish a connection. (please tell me if you've got any error messages...)

2wire 1701HG Gateway Router VPN Setup

Go to http://gateway.2wire.net and click on the firewall icon. Click on firewall settings and, if prompted, enter your system password to reach the advanced settings page. select the computer that will function as the VPN server. In the left column, select PPTP server. click on Add, then done. or try changing the IP scheme to the 172.16.0.0/255.255.0.0 or 10.0.0.0/255.255.0.0 schemes by accessing gateway.2wire.net, go to home network icon, then advanced settings. but if you manually configure or disable dhcp, be sure to write down the subnet mask & IP assigned to the 2wire then click on save. if all else fails, run it on DMZPlus mode, however this solution will allow all inbound traffic to the computer. if it still doesn't work on DMZPlus mode, the VPN is either using the same IP scheme, is using IPSec 50 or 51, or will not work with the 2Wire gateway.

Wireless router

I have a friend that works at 2 wire. I've bought a couple of their products. And I'm a computer geek. Unless I miss my guess it shouldn't matter what is plugged into it, be it laptop or desktop. It may be locked down to the MAC address on the NIC, but I doubt it. Anyway you'd just browse to it's embedded webpage and change the setting. The IP address is the same as the gateway address on the laptop plugged into it.

I think I bought that model for my dad but I can't remember the exact model number on it. Anyway the one I bought, and set up for my Dad, I had several different computers hooked up to it and never had a problem.
