If this happens when you are not actually doing anything on the laptop it is probably a power saver configuration issue. Open the Control Panel, select Power Options and make adjustments there.

My laptop shuts down when i connect my new iPhone 3G

does your computer have a webcam? if it does, the computer is restarting itself because it identifies two conflicting cameras - one from your computer, the other from your iphone. what you can do is either 1)update your camera drive, 2)update your computer drive or 3)use a computer that does not have a webcam connected to it. hope this helped!

Turns itself off & gets hot -don't think fan is kicking on

Since you do not hear the fan anymore I would start by opening up the case and seeing if power is going to the fan and make sure any connectors for it have not come loose. If the connectors are still hooked up chances are the fan is shot and needs to be replaced.

If you are not familiar with working around electronics and parts under power I would highly suggest you have some one who is familiar with this do it.

well its an overheating issue

looks like there is no air current going inside your laptop so its one of two issues

either you are putting the laptop on some soft area (like bed or sofa).

or (and thats what i think it is) the fan is not working properly or maybe not working at all.

so check the fans because if it is the fan then its normal you will have your computer restarting and shutting off once every 15 minutes range because the CPU is overheating and it should shut down to prevent CPU from getting damaged.

let me know what happened with u

When you start your laptop, press F8. You will get a menu (Normal boot, Reboot...). Choose Last good known configuration (something like that).

Hi, the problem sounds to me like your CPU is overheating.
Have a look or have a technician look at the cooling fan and see if it is still working.
Most CPU's are set to shut down when over hot to prevent damage.
