Question about Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop
SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: ST980829A-[PM]
WARNING: Immediately back-up your data and replace your hard disc drive. A failure may be imminent
Press F1 to continue
Laptop does not boot up and this message just comes on again
This warning is usually exactly what it says it is - a warning that your hard drive is in the process of getting ready to fail, and to back up your data. Occasionally, however, the SMART feature could be defective, or could be reacting to some other adverse condition within the machine. As you indicate that the machine will not boot, does it fail to continue when you hit F1? If so, check your system documentation to verify, but you may be able to disable the SMART feature by entering the BIOS during the system startup (by hitting F2 while in the process of starting up).
Your manual is located at http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/AS3680_5570_5580_5570Z_ENG_1123.pdf
and if you look at pp 83-84, you can see the reference to BIOS, as well as disk-to-disk recovery. There is no information discernible in regard to the SMART properties of your hard drive. Additionally, you may find various support topics at http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal20.cfm?searchall=1&website=AcerPanAm.com&siteid=7117&areaid=2#results.
Unless there is an update/upgrade that is relevant to this issue (which is unlikely), it would appear that you will need to replace the hard drive. Your materials should include contact information regarding contacting support, which you should do in regard to this issue, and if your machine is still under warranty, it should be replaced. Otherwise, hopefully there is a backup of your drive, which you can access and utilize to replace the drive successfully without loss of your data. Good luck!

THis error is telling you that there's a problem with yoru laptop hard driver where the operating system is installed that's why it cannot boot, so the best thing to do here is to replace the hard drive then after that , if you have important file on that old hard drive from your laptop you can buy a hard drive enclosure and make the old hard drive a external drive and that way you should be able to retrive some of your data that is save on it.........
Hope that helps.......
