Question about Computers & Internet

Forwarded problem Benimur: Came across this in the posted problems - obviously this user is looking for help from you. I know this person didn't give much detail, but perhaps they will share it with you, or maybe you are already working with them. They apparently don't know how to get to the "Ask Me" feature... Thank you. http://www.fixya.com/support/t1051202-benimur

Thank you, Benimur. I have to tell you that I appreciate your kind words in this matter, and the professionalism you consistently display in both the forum and the lounge. You may recall my participation in addressing and, to the extent possible, rectifying the situation involving the extreme vulgarity of a former expert, in what could only be termed a rampage at the end of June. That particular matter represented an emergency situation, in my opinion, due to the potential for catastrohic damage to FixYa and all of us as true experts. I felt strongly that immediate action was required to diffuse the explosive nature of the situation, and particularly to focus on the users who had obviously been impacted in a dramatically negative fashion.

At that time, I posted several items in the lounge, in an attempt to help (and obtain assistance) in addressing that horrid situation. The actions of that expert would not have been known to me had they not been discussed in the lounge, as the items pointed out were premium responses, with which I was not involved. To make a very long story short, I feel strongly that our focus should be squarely on each user who has requested our assistance.

Experts in the lounge at the time primarily focused on inappropriate premium responses, and on taking action to prevent his further response to premium questions. I felt that it was equally important to stop his posting of this type of material in any case, premium or not. In fact, as you know, the free postings, which are visible to anyone on the site, could have had an even greater impact than the premium postings, which have a fairly limited audience. Then, to an even greater extent, I felt that the users who had been subjected to that mistreatment needed and deserved as much assistance as possible; and although I obviously could not "erase" the language they had already seen, I did my best to post sincere apologies for that behavior, and to provide the types of responses and assistance they should have received.

I visit the lounge for informational purposes on occasion, and I address primarily the free questions in the forum. Therefore, I am not as visible as many of the others. There are a number of experts who appear to routinely demonstrate professionalism in their conduct. However, I have to tell you that I also see your continuous emphasis on the customer, and that, I believe, is one of the strongest identifying attributes of a true expert. Thank you again!

Hi smartsolve,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me" and much more calling my attention to this concern. I have to admit that I missed seeing this and your "Ask Me" saved me from an embarrassing situation.

With your kind indulgence, I would bring this action of yours to the attention of the community in general through the Lounge that others may emulate your "team spirit". Again Thanks.

Have you checked your trash folder? You should also try contacting the person you forwarded it to. They may be able to send you a copy.

I think it is unwise to put email addresses in your posts, as it gives hackers an easy in. :( Sorry. :(

Does this help? Let us know.

How do I set my e-mail address to download emails

Just so everyone knows, I have BB Curve 8310 with AT & T.

You get 1 blackberry email account (in my case, it's username@att.blackberry.net). If you're like me, you have business, personal, etc accounts that you want to add without getting 20-30 minute delays before the email hits your BB.

Let's say you have 2 emails you want to set up (1 for your business and 1 personal). Let's say your business POP3 email is myname@mybusiness.com.

1) Create a username with your ATT BB address (let's say, mybusinessname@att.blackberry.net).
2) In your POP3 email settings, choose to "redirect" or "forward and save a copy in Inbox" and forward your emails to your ATT BB address (mybusinessname@att.blackberry.net) you've just created. This will help get your emails to your BB pretty much instantaneously. And emails will be kept in your inbox for you to reference as well.
3) Log into your providers BIS (short for Blackberry Internet Service). ** Can't post a link but you can just Google your providers name followed by Blackberry Internet Service and you should find it
4) Once you're logged in, from there you can set up your account.
• Email Account Name: put your ATT BB address in there
• Reply To: This is where you can put any email address you want. So, even though you're sending the email from username@att.blackberry.net, the user will see whatever email address you put in this field. So, in this case, you want to put myname@mybusiness.com. So, the user will see it came from myname@mybusiness.com and when replying, they will reply to myname@mybusiness.com (which is then forwarded to your ATT BB email, which is then forwarded to your BB).
• Auto BCC: The only problem with doing this (and I run into this a lot) is that since I'm sending out so many emails - some from BB and some from my office computer, I don't know what I sent to people, and without an Enterprise server, it is not automatically synched with my desktop in my office. What you can do here is set up a Gmail account and name it mybusiness_dump@gmail.com and any email you send from your BB will be sent to this email address as well so you know what you sent people.
• Signature: You can change your signature for each of your email accounts (business, personal, whatever), which is great.

Schematics for the Onkyo

Benimur,

I don't have the info on the initial question/posting, but Onkyo systems I have worked on often have open driver transistors as well as shorted outputs. With one of the driver transistors open, the voltages tend to float to one side. The 18V you mention sounds like that is what is happening. have the initial asker replace the driver transistors (as a pair) just like the outputs.

Keep me posted.

Thin horizontal line across the entire TV screen

Hi, your correct it is collapsed vertically, you should have re-soldered it before it failed because now you may have to replace the IC but I would re-solder it first as this possibly will fix it, look for a small aluminum (silver colored) heatsink with a black 7-10 pin IC screwed onto the heatsink, flip the main board over and this IC will probably have 2-3 (or more) pins broken, re-solder with 60-40 tin/lead solder, you didn`t give make & model number so thats all the info I can give you, good luck, BMW Rider

Port forwarding

What is the manufacturer of your router so I can get a user guide and taylor the instructions if needed?

Generally I would statically address the device to be forwarded to. If your router address is 192.168.1.1 and Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and it's DHCP server controls address 192.168.1.100 for 50 leases to 192.168.1.149 then consider using the range 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.99 uniquely as static IP addresses. There are more starting at 192.169.1.150 but let's ignore them for now. In the network adapter to recieve port forwarded content assign a static IP address based on the above as say 192.168.1.15 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a default gateway of 192.168.1.1. The DNS addresses should also be static however depending on your router there may be an option. Some routers allow their address to be entered as the DNS address and pass requests as appropriate to the DNS servers loaded in their lan configurations, otherwise you will enter your ISP supplied DNS addresses into the network configuration.

Now that we have established a stable IP address to forward the port to we need to tell the router everything it sees for port 5060 gets forwarded to IP Address 192.168.1.15 port 8000. If detailed instructions are needed I will need to know the manufacturer and model of your router.

Please provide the additional information and any questions in a response to this problem and I will respond when available.
