Question about Gateway 830GM PC Desktop

Front panel cords

I had to replace the cord on Gatewat830GM and now I cannot get the computer to turn on. Is there a certain order they have to be in in order for it to come on. It was working fine until while I was moving the pc to another location and the side panel slid off and I pulled them loose from the inside trying to steddy the machine. the cords are red,blue and black twisty. I tried to put them back on the little pins with no luck How do I reattached the three twisted pair of wires coming from the power LED button and going to the motherboard?

Very Simple
the red(2) and black(3) should be on the opposite side of the 3pin..and blue on the upside(1) See figure on how to wire the 3 pin wire.........      1    2  3

Look closely at those twisted cords, the ends are labeled or have markings (PWR, RESET, ETC)

Then on the motherboard, the jumpers where the twisted cords should go, also have markings next to.

May need to consult the motherboard's user manual or just get a flash light & a magnifying glass.

Just double check first all the wires and make sure they are all properly connected and because this can only be a connection problem, its just like building a new computer that sometimes you need to unplug all the wires and reconnect them one by one to make sure they are connected in their proper place...

If your computer beeps when you start it but does not display anything on your monitor:

b. Verify that your monitor's power cord is connected and that your monitor is turned on.
c. If possible, connect your monitor to a different computer to make sure that your monitor works properly.

Hey, the power button and led wires have come loose from the motherboard.. will need to get the manual of your motherboard to find out the exact pins to connect them to, but generally they are in bottom right corner of motherboard and small text says what goes where. can you tell me what it reads on the motherboard. theres brand and model info there.

My acer aspire zc 606 desktop will not turn on. I have tried unplugging power cord holding power button down for 45 secs. Is there anything else I can do?


First, you should remove the power cord from the PC before opening the side panel. Second, you should avoid static electricity by touching a bare metal part of the case before touching anything else in the computer. It's possible that the power on/off switch on the front panel of your PC is faulty. Inside the case on the motherboard you will find several wires coming from the front panel which connect to pins on the board. one wire is labeled PWR. Unplugging this wire reveals the pins which are very close together. Using a screwdriver to touch both pins at once will power the computer on. Of course, the power cord must be reattached in order for this trick to work so be extremely careful! If the PC is still under warranty then attempting to replace the on/off switch yourself may void the warranty.
The other possibility is that the power supply, or the cpu, or the motherboard itself is faulty. In this case, take it to a computer repair shop.

How to replace cords to door of dishwasher


Hi, You have to get access to both sides of the dishwasher, remove both sidepanels, Find damaged cord and order relevant part online, order 2 cords to replace both sides. To replace damaged cord ensure to close dishwasher door and unhook spring, replace damaged cords on both sides and connect springs back into place. Install both side panels to dishwasher. Done

My hp pavilion a336n will not turn on. When I plug the power cord in the light on the back of the hard drive will turn on, but when I press the power button nothing happens... any suggestions?


To resolve this issue you may need to open the chassis (the computer cabinet). You can call HP specialized support for help but they charge you for the support. You can call them at 866-211-5207.

To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (like a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap that is connected to a grounded surface, like the metal frame of a PC.
  1. Disconnect everything from the computer, including the power cord.
  2. With the power cord disconnected , press the power button on the front of the computer for five seconds. Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps. NOTE: If the power supply fan makes an inconsistent grinding sound or stops and starts erratically, replace the power supply
  3. With the power cord removed, flip the red voltage selector switch to the opposite position. HD 497 cords that connect headphones to computer


If you know how to solder wires then the cord is certainly replaceable. My cat chewed through the cord on my BeyerDynamic headphones, but I was able to order a replacement from them, take the earcups apart, remove the old leads and solder in the new cord lines.

You could try calling the customer service line for Sennheiser and see if they can send you a replacement, or you could just pick up a generic cord from Radio Shack or an electronic parts supplier.

NOTE: If the Power Supply fan spins when the PC is turned on but the light does not come on, it is possible the LED is defective. If this is the case, use the section Power supply light comes on or flashes .

3. Replace the power cord with another power cord, like the one used by the monitor.

Yes, they have to be in a certain order. I was unable to locate a diagram for the model you listed. Try searching the Gateway site for a wiring diagram: http://support.gateway.com/support/default.asp There is a Gateway forum here, which may be of help: http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/forum17.html You should probably not try random combinations, as you could damage the computer.

Nothing on the screen after power on


Turn on the computer and complete the following steps: Step 1: Check cable connections (If you can see the initial HP or Compaq logo screen but later lose the picture, you can skip to Step 2.) check the video cable connection on the back of the computer and on the monitor. Make sure that it is connected properly and the connecting screws are tight. Turn the monitor off and then back on again (while the computer is on) to see if an image appears. Some Flat Panel monitors have two similar power input connections placed side-by-side on the back of the monitor, which sometimes allows them to get confused for one another. One connector is used to supply power to the speakers with a separate power cord, while the other connector is used for the monitor's power adapter. Ensure that you have the monitor's power adapter cord plugged into the power connector and not the speaker connector. After you have reconnected the power cord, turn on the monitor (while the computer is on) to see if an image appears. If there is still no image, continue to the next Step. Step 2: Resetting the monitor At first setup, or under certain signal conditions, the monitor may not be able to switch to a new display resolution. Do NOT shut down or restart the computer. Instead, perform the following steps: Turn off the monitor using the Power button on the front. If the Power button does not respond, unplug the power cord from the back of monitor and wait five seconds. Plug the power cord back in. You should see the image from the computer on the screen.
