    My TV is a RCA model# F27442TX51

  • stephenson82 Sep 28, 2008

I've had this operating foe several years and suddenly it doesn't work any more. I've gone over all the instruction I have but nothing helps. It just doesn't pick up the signal carrying the listing. Anything else I can do?

  • stephenson82 Sep 28, 2008

Again, the system has been operating for many years, when suddenly it stop working. I've done everything the user's guide says including checking all connections and setting everything the guide said to do, but nothing seems to help.

The condition of your TV called power supply overcurrent shutdown. The TV is going into a protection mode to prevent further circuit damage. That's why it will not turn on or not powering up. I would concentrate on the power supply section board. Bad regulation of the incoming voltage could caused this issue although, there is a capacitor across the incoming line and nuetral.Maybe its leak or dry up and cause the problems, change it out with one of identical rating .I would probably also check the flyback circuit and flyback transformer although now you are getting into dangerous area, especially if you have no electronic experience background. It could be also be a loose ,crack or cold solder joint,a blown fuse, fusible links or other component .It could be one of several boards.Unfortunately the level of sophistication on these TV make it virtually impossible to diagnose them further without taking them apart and probing around with a multimeter and other tools. This TV is handy enough to take to a repair shop find a good one.You will probably have to pay $75 to $100....

Hope this may help you..

Regards,

If you have the set off, and the cable plugged into the back of the set for a day or so, the guide plus should come back. It will sometimes take up to 48 hours. If it does not, there is a problem with the set and will require servicing. Good Luck
OR pull the ac plug for about 5 min and start your set up again paying atention to the features you want and don;t.set the menu to suite your requirements. OR set up the zip code again and then see.
OR That is a common problem on the RCA tv sets with the TV-Guide plus
module from a couple of years ago.
To fix it simply unplug the tv set for a couple of minutes and plug it
back in to reset the Tv-Guide plus module and main system control.

What is happening is the TV-Guide plus standard included a commercial
audio mute feature, but the tv stations were banned from using this by
the sponsors. So the same code got used for some other network to tv
station use.

Problem is they never send the audio back on command and the tv locks
up the audio.

Thomson/RCA is aware of the problem and cannot do anything about
fixing the tv set as it meets the Tv-Guide plus standards at the time
of manufacture.

If this does not fix it the tv has a real internal failure that needs
repaired by a trained and equipped technician. OR have you checked to see if any buttons on tv are stuck?-do they all click or do you feel a click when pressing buttons?-stuck buttons can cause funny problems with these tvs

According to the list of compatible TV's on their website, RCA is not listed. Look here:

The guide plus comes in on the VBI
part of the channel freq. This is the same part that closed captioning
comes in on, is that working? Your cable provider can block this by
limiting the bandwidth, but they are not supposed to be allowed to. Is
the guide plus working on sat? You can also try bunny ears on one of
the tv's and it should also work. Remember the plus info comes in when
your set is off and it must not have anything blocking the "ant" in
such as a cable box (have to leave it on) or a VCR (have to leave it
off) for it to come in.

    The verticle blanking interface
(VBI) carries the cc and guide plus. The cc will be on that actual
channel freq. if that network is transmitting it. The guide only comes
in on certain local channels for the entire guide. When the set is off,
it scans for that info starting at channel 2 and works up untill it
finds the info. There have been some cable companies that blocked that
info because they were trying to get extra revenue from their digital
boxes doing it. From what I heard, they were not allowed to do this
    anymore.

My next suggestion would be to default the tv by entering 99999 or 00000 for a zip code.

You could try a self check on the tv. Most RCA's follow this pattern:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Select option 7
    3. Then Select option 1
    4. With "Set-Up" highlighted press menu
    5. Then press "Go-Back"
    6. Then press "TV"If "BUS" fails, then your television needs to have module replaced.
If "VBI" fails, the signal needs to be reset with the "99999" reset.

    Hope that helps!!
