The platform is failing WGA. This KB has information about WGA and potentially resolving the issue

If the laptop has a valid key associated with it, it's usually on a sticker on the hardware somewhere.
If there isn't a valid license associated, then the only legal way to get rid of the message is to buy a valid license.

Tip

On screen warning saying I may be a victim of software counterfeiting

The message is prompted by Microsoft Windows WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) software.

To start I must advise you that the best thing to do is contacting Microsoft, and asking them as to proceed, as the system installed on your computer may be counterfeited.

See:How and when to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support

If you get the Microsoft Genuine software warning, that usually means that the installed system key is not recognized as valid. This often happens when the system is installed with a number that is not the one printed in the sticker.
In some case the WGA message was prompted in presence of genuine Windows installation because of a system bug.

c2cca98.jpeg

If you have a Windows version that is the same as the license number printed on the COA sticker, then the best thing to do is changing the number and then validating Windows again. See here:Genuine Microsoft Software.

If your installed software is a different version from the one you have a valid COA (eg. XP Home Edition on sticker vs. XP Professional installed), then you must install the Windows version for which you have the license or purchase the proper license for your system. Any unlicensed use of Microsoft software will be illegal.

In case you want temporarily need to remove the Genuine Microsoft Software warning before installing genuine software, you can follow the steps below.

Method 1 System Restore.

A system restore to a date before the warning started will stop the message.
The restore will set the the computer to the same state it was in the date before the warning message started.
The data will not be deleted, but all settings and software installed after restore date will be affected. Do a backup of your data before starting system restore.

See: How to perform System Restore on Windows XP

Method 2 Software utilities.

There are several utilities to remove the WGA logon message. Try the ones listed below.

RemoveWGA.exe,

Remove WGA 1.2.exe.

Method 3: Delete software and change registry values.

You can get rid of the message changing the registries below. Do a backup of Windows registry before starting. If you change te wrong registry entry, Windows may not start. If that happens, then you will have to get rid of the problem installing a genuine Windows.

Launch Task Manager.by pressing Ctrl Alt Del at the same time. Look for the process “WgaTray.exe” and stop it.
Start computer in Safe Mode and delete the file WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache
Type Regedit in Run box and open Registry Editor.
In Regedit find the entry called : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify key.
Delete the folder WgaLogon and all of its contents.
Restart the PC normally.

The methods to remove the WGA message are not a solution to the problem. The procedures illustrated will remove the warning, but the system will not be properly licensed. Arrange reinstall of the system according to Windows version listed in your COA , or purchase a valid Microsoft product.

Hi there !

Yes, it can be repair and all you need in Windows XP installer CD to repair your operating system and all your information will be brought back.

1. If you have the Windows XP installer CD, put in the CDROM drive and turn on your computer and try to make sure that it will boot up in your CDROM drive. A message will display " press any key to boot to CD" and press any key.

2. After it will go to Windows XP set up and below instruction will appear:

a. To set up Windows XP now, press Enter
b. To repair Windows XP installation using recovery console, press R
c. To quit set up without installing Windows XP, press F3

Since you want to repair it, you should press R to repair and it will not delete your files on that partition.

3. After that just go on through the process and after repairing it will reboot itself and run Windows XP.

I hope it helps you. Good Luck and Thank you for using FixYa !

I am getting a message "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting"on my laptop. Also the screen is black and no icons and start menu and shortcut icons are not visible on the screen. Please help me...

Windows validation software (Be it Windows XP to Windows 7) has deemed that the Validation Key (VLK) that was used to install your operating system was not legally obtained. If you think this is in error, you can use the Windows Genuine Validation site to check this. Just click on the Validate Windows button and follow the instructions.

Because the validation software has currently decided that your VLK is invalid, it has disabled many desktop features to make itself more evident. This is why the screen is black, no icons, update doesn't work etc etc.

If the the Windows Validation site determines that the VLK is indeed invalid then you have two options to re-validate Windows. One is legal, the other is NOT.

The easiest and legal method implies purchasing a valid windows license key. Simply follow the instructions from this page.

The harder, potentially frustrating, not recommended and certainly illegal method is detailed at these pages.

Hello

OK, i had this exact error on my other laptop yesterday, sorry to say, but you will need to format the computer and reinstall windows XP. If there is data on the HDD you would want to keep, you will need to plug your HDD into another computer and backup the data before you format.

Kind regards

How can i remove this problem "Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 This copy of Windows is not genuine" appear when i boot my laptop. Thanks

indows Genuine Advantage Notifications for Windows XP notifies you if a copy of Windows XP is not genuine. The notification messages only appear on computers that have failed the WGA validation process and that are running a copy of Windows XP that is not genuine. If you are running a validated, genuine copy of Windows XP, you will not receive notification messages.

Hello I have an acer aspire 5535 and it keeps

The complete solution to this fault (Acer 5535 keeps crashing under vista) is to use Windows XP instead of Vista. Set up a Dual Boot so you can CHOOSE to load XP or Vista each time you turn on the laptop. I've put XP on my 5535 and it's SO much faster and seems perfectly stable now - no crashing at all.

A full video showing how to do this is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdfU9TXIAd4

Once you've done this you won't have any problems with the laptop anymore.
This is a perfect solution to the crashing problem!
