Question about RCA F32649 32" TV

1 Answer

RCA tv model F32649 white horizontal lines

It started with white horizontal lines across the top of the tv and it would do this for a couple of minuets every now an again for about 3 weeks. Then it started to look as though it was shrinking the top half of the picture to the center of the screen. The bottom of the picture appears normal with a scrunched picture in the middle and the top half of the screen was black. It was doing this for about a week and then it would fix it's self an all would be well for a while. Now it is scrunched all of the time. It is like this for all channels and the sound is not affected at all. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Check and replace all the electrolytic capacitors at its vertical output section circuit. There will be five or 6 of them. Replace all.

Insignia 32" TV Thin line across screen 1-2" from top

The original white line problem was caused by improper adjustment of the vertical size for which there is an internal adjustment. The current problem could come from two different sources, one an adjustment again, the other from a capacitor that is losing capacitance and gaining losses; = sick.
If you are fortunate enough to have a surviving TV repair in your area, none of these problems is expensive to find or correct.
Don't be surprised to find the only TV shop operating out of a messy garage since those of us doing this kind of service are dying off and the price one can charge for labor has shrunken to the point that a real business address is too expensive to have.

White horizontal lines at top of picture

Yes, definitely worth fixing. The problem lies in the vertical deflection voltage-doubler circuit. The usual fault is a single capacitor of 100uF/35V that has failed. It is normally connected to a rectifier diode right at the vertical IC. Replacing the capacitor (no more than USD4.00 in price) usually gets it working perfectly again. If you are finicky around technical work, then a reputable local repair shop in your locality should do it quickly for you and charge only labour.
