Our PS3 was working fine yesterday. My son left the console on over night and when he tried to play later that day there was no power to the console. For a little while the power light was real faint (you could barely see the light). Any suggestions.
If you get no light at all anymore you may need a replacement power supply. Ebay offers a few, I have a working one for sale right now. it is fairly easy to replace but you need to open the console.
If the warranty is expired it won't make a difference.
If you still have warrantu send it in for a replacement.

The actual freezing problem can be caused by the GPU overheating and SO can the no display error as well. For an in depth look at how to fix both of these problems see this >
Try playing a Demo game, if you dont have any download it from playstation network. The point is just to force the sytem to play games and if you notice, movies and games are listed under a different folder in the icon's list, so playing a demo game will force the system to play the game and you should be able to play your games fine after that,. Thing is that a game's info might've got stuck in freeze mode when the system was shut off unproperly while a game disk was still inside, that's all. Good luck, dont wanna see any PS3 comrades suffering the unspeakable horridness of not been able to play games. Be strong my friend.
Sometimes on either ends of communication either the PS3 network or your broadband can have have a bad connection. Unless there is a serious problem i would assume that It will come back on in about at most a day or 2. If not check settings (ip address etc.) and make sure broadband hasnt been cut off.
Unplug everything! There is a "breaker" in the power supply and it may need to be reset. Just unplug all cables from the TV and outlets. Let it sit for a couple hours then plug everything back in and it should work fine. If not then the power supply has shorted out due to a strong power surge. You can claim it under your home owners insurance or call Nintendo and try to get it replaced. Thanks! Good luck and happy gaming!!
