Starting procedure

Terry: According to eHow.com:

"
  • Put on a pair of safety glasses. Remove the fuel cap from the Weed Eater and set it aside. Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline that has been mixed with quality 2-stroke oil in a 40:1 ratio. Replace the fuel cap.
  • Move the Weed Eater to a safe place and lay it flat on the ground. Depress the fuel bulb located beneath the carburetor approximately six times to prime the engine. Press it slowly so that fuel has adequate time to traverse the fuel line.
  • Slide the handlebar-mounted engine "On/Stop" switch to the "On" position. Slide the choke lever beneath the fuel tank to the "Full" position.
  • Depress the "Throttle Lock" lever located beside the engine "On/Stop" switch. Keeping the lever depressed, squeeze the throttle trigger. Release the throttle lock. This sequence holds the trigger in the depressed position, which aids in starting the Weed Eater.
  • Roll the Weed Eater so that it is resting on the engine and the trimmer head shield only. This will allow the spinning trimmer head to avoid contact with the ground. Brace the Weed Eater by holding it to the ground with one hand. Using your other hand, pull the starter rope quickly until the engine begins to run. Do not pull the rope more than a dozen times. If it fails to start by then, squeeze the throttle trigger and continue to pull until the engine starts.
  • Allow the Weed Eater to warm up for about 15 seconds, then slide the choke lever to the "Off" position. Let the trimmer run for another minute without touching the throttle lever. After the Weed Eater has warmed up, squeeze the throttle trigger once to disengage the throttle lock. The trimmer is now operational.

    Stihl FS200 repair manual

I just saw this deal on the Fs200 Stihl Brushcutter. Equipped with a Zama c1qs51 carb. Junk the carb. Go to a stihl dealer and buy a three screw chainsaw type carb with a high low and idle screw. The c1qs51 is junk. The three school carb will put an end to your worries. Of course change your fuel filter naturally. I guarantee this will fix the thing. I own an Fs200 and Fs250.

After you clean and rebuild a tillston carburetor where do you set the air mixture jets to start

Hi, Turn the L and H screws in gently until they just stop turning (no force at all) first. Then back them off 1.25 to 1.5 turns from closed. Set the L speed first unit running so that the unit does not stall when trigger is squeezed and then MAX throttle adjust the H screw until you get max speed. Recheck for stalls when trigger squeezed again and repeat above steps until you have no stalls / hesitation and max speed.

ADJUSTMENTS should not be much more than the width of a screwdriver blade on either screw before re-testing. Never more than 1/8 th turn per adjustment for sure.

One year old weed eater -- wont crank

There may be a few reasons it doesn't crank. First and foremost, you need fresh fuel in it, not the fuel that you used last season. Discard that fuel. You need the air filter to be clean. We can try and coerce it into running. Remove the air filter that is mounted on the carburetor. Open the choke lever. Squeeze the throttle trigger all the way. While you have the trigger squeezed, shoot a couple of shots of aerosol type carburetor/choke cleaner spray through the throat of the carburetor and into the engine. You can find this product at all auto parts stores and even WalMart. Spray the cleaner, then turn on the choke and immediately try to start it. If the machine "pops" like it wants to run or maybe runs for a few seconds, then that is great. We are on the right track. Do this a few times and soon, the carburetor will pick up the fuel in the tank (make sure to use the purge bulb), and possibly begin to run on its own. Before you do ANY of these things however, please remove and clean or replace your spark plug. Post back with results. We like to help.

    Getting the Ryobi Started

You don't mention what model. On mine, CS26, it says, Turn handle switch to on (right as your holding it), press primer bulb 7x, turn choke handle to start (down), pull till unit starts. Run 6-10 secs then turn choke handle to run, (up). Do not squeeze the throttle trigger during start procedure. Hope this helps

My Honda mower HRU196D will not turn off when the throttle is moved to the stop position

Look down on the left side of the engine where the throttle cable attaches to the control linkage. There is a bolt that holds the black plastic cable in a clamp like device. Losen the bolt and slide the cable back toward the handle / grass catcher in the housing just a bit. Tighten the bolt and then start and test your engine shut off with the throttle contol lever in the stop position. You may have to adjust it a couple of times. If after the adjustment(s) it still does not start, then there is a problem with the kill wire switch on the engine's control linkage.

Cant get weed eater to start

look at these items for your weed eater. Make sure that your fuel mixture is correct and clean. Also make sure there are no air bubbles trapped in the fuel line. Agitate the fuel tank to make sure there is no blockage caused by dirt and debris. If you have a fuel filter make sure it is clean and does not need replacing.
Next check the air filter to make sure it is clean.
Next check that the spark plug, is it whitish grey and matt in colour and not back, oily or pure white. If so then change the plug and set the correct spark gap for the particular type of plug you are using. If the plug is black and sooty or pure white matt then the fuel mix is incorrect and you will need to adjust this. Black indicates too much oil in the 2 stroke and burning low and the white indicates over temperature and probably not enough oil in the fuel mix or using to high an octane rating. If it is oily then there is far too much oil in the fuel mix and if you are using a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke with additional lubrication then there is oil leaking into the combustion area most likely caused by a worn or cracked piston ring. After that check that the carb, is it operating correctly and opens fully when starting and closes as the engine warms upon idle. Also make sure that it idles evenly. Also if it stops when you throttle it then look at the spark cap to make sure it is not loose or damaged and produces enough voltage to fire up the plug correctly otherwise you may have a generator issue or a carb problem or air filter problem or something restring air flow. Also check the engine casing over for any cracks or damage.
Check this link out at Troy-Bilt for your weed eater. Just select the download owners manual below your picture. You will need to provide them with your model and serial. Just copy and paste into your browser.

The weedwacker dies when I squeeze the throttle trigger

You need to clean the carburetor. Remove and disassemble carb. Use a den Tek Brush, (used to clean between teeth), to clean the small portals in carb. Use a carb. cleaner while cleaning. Make sure the small screen in carb. is free of debris. The smallest of paticles can cause the carb. not to run right. Reassemble the carb. and try starting. If there is no change, then you will need to buy a carb. kit for your trimmer. Replace all appropriateparts: gaskets, diaphragm, needle valve, and the small screen.

Need to adjust fuel and air mix to start trimmer.

    Hello gwturley201:

I am Including the Carburetor Adjustment File Also.
From your Description it Sounds like the Exhaust Port or Muffler is Restricted with Carbon Deposits, the Carburetor Metering Pump Actuator Gap is Incorrect.
    >>The Following is a Basic Instruction File for Doing a Diagnostic on the Engine for this Problem. Any Input is Appreciated.
    >>**Remove the Muffler and Make Sure the Exhaust Port is Clear.
    >>If it is, then Try to Start the engine with the Muffler Off.
    >>If it Starts and Runs Properly, then Clean the Spark Arrestor Screen in the Muffler or Replace the Muffler if Required.
Is the Fuel Line from the Fuel Filter Staying Full of Fuel?
The Carburetor Metering Jet Actuator is Set so the Pump Diaphram Dowl is Just Touching the Actuator Arm. These Components are Located Under the Cover with 4 Small Screws Holding it to the Carburetor Body.
