Hi, I was taking photos and suddenly my camera showed error message "err CF". How do I fix it and avoid losing the photos I'd already taken? All help gratefully received.

Thanks

    Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. In the end, I used all your suggestions! Doing so removed the error code to allow me to take one shot - but then the error code reappeared. I concluded that the CF card was fubar and I've bought a new one...

The photos that were already on the card were recovered using a nifty bit of software my boyfriend has.

    Thanks again for your help.

This happens to me from time to time. I just take out the batteries and reinstall them and it seems to reset the problem. ALso try cleaning your lens contacts.

Hope this helps

I don't have a 350D, and don't have a list of codes but I would guess the error code refers to the Compact Flash card. In the instructions to my camera, a 400D, the solution is to remove and reinstall the card, if there is still a problem, you might have to format the card. Hopefully this will help!

Error message reading Err CF

Be careful. I had the same problem, and for me it was a corrupt CF card.
Try reading the card on a card reader with your computer. If it can't read it, you'll need to replace it. Otherwise you could lose future photos.
I hope this helps!

.1. Turn off the camera.

4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.

Does the "ERR 99' message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the "ERR 99' message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the "ERR 99' with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

Check that the pins in the camera that connect to the CF card are clean and not bent. You will probably need a good light and a magnifying glass to see into the card slot. If you can see a pin that is bent you could try straigtening it. BEWARE- turn off camera and use a non conducting "stick" ie cocktail or toothpick. Not sure for a Canon but a colleague paid £40 for a new pin assembly for a Nikon with similar problem.
Hope this helps.

Have canon 350d, yesterday came up with CF err. Tried 2 diffrent cards, same thing. Friend tried my CF cards worked fine in her camera. Please help

Hi,

Please look inside your cardholder and you have seen a lot of small pins.
If one or more of the pins are bending or missing it gives an error on the camera display

CF Card Err

Sounds like you have bent pins on your CF reader. Open the door, take out the card and look inside. Is there damage to the pins?

You maybe able to fix it with pincers and a needle just align the pin or pins that are out of place, i did this and it worked for me and now my camera is working fine. and for free.

Good luck
