I have a Vostro 200, and bought dell AX 210 speakers, which are not working, do i need to purchase speakers solely for that model, as I seem to keep coming across different opinions on this matter and the compatability?

I have sound...but it is so low that you can barely hear it.

    Hi Rachel,
I tried the green port, as well as some of the others. Still the same, very faint. All volumes are as high as they can go.

    Any other thoughts?

I ahve this problem also--have tried lots of different speakers

I am not new to computers, and this Vostro 200 Dell desktop that my mother-in-law has is bumming me.

I plugged the headset (no speakers) to the front green panel and no audio. Then I tried the green panel in the rear, no dice. I plugged the headset jack in all audio-related panels, front and rear, no audio.

The headset works, as I can connect it to the front green panel of her other Dell (a Dimension 2400) and I get audio.

    Is the Vostro at fault?

The only other difference between the two Dells is the Dimension runs XP, the Vostro is on Vista.

No you don't. As long as you can plug the speakers to the green port on the back of the computer, the speakers are powered and the volume knob on the speakers is turned all the way up. You should hear sound.

Also make sure the sound is not muted in windows.

Activate external speakers

Does the replacement speakers have identical specs to the original?? If not you could try downloading new drivers for your new speakers at this site - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails?driverId=R155944

then click the blue download button to download, do not use the dell download manager.

If your replacement has identical specifications to the old and still no audio is coming out, try downloading the driver above. if it still doesn't work then most probably its a hardware problem before the speaker section of your drive.

Same problem, brand new Dell Vostro, hooked up Polk Audio speakers from former computer and get very, very faint music. Need a solution

if the sound is very faint. you can check the volume properties if it is set to maximize and also check the physical volume control on the actual speaker - also Disconnect Any Headphones That May Be Connected to the Computer - Check for and remove any headphones connected to the computer or speakers to prevent them from muting the external speakers.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Sounds tab. You can also try head phone if it is Crystal Clear on headphone then the problem is with the Speaker as Dell might need to replace it. :)

I have polk audio speakers that came with my old hp f50. I just purchased a new hp but can't get my speakers to work

The old speakers are not compatible. Your new computer is looking for an external power source for the speakers, the older polk speakers that came with Hp computers have none.

Where does the Microphone plug in to the Dell Vostro200

Depending on the chassis-style of your Vostro 200 (Slim-line or Tower), you may have one or more options for installing a microphone.
See below for instructions:
A. Slim-Line Model
There are two locations on this model (by default).

Front: You have the power button, then 2 x USB ports, 1 x Headphone jack-out, and 1 x Microphone jack-in.

Rear: There is a block of six audio connectors, looking only at the bottom 3 (red, green & blue).
Red = Microphone jack-in Green = Speaker/Audio jack-out Blue = Audio jack-in

B. Tower Model
There is one location on this model (by default):

Dell Vostro (with Vista) Speakers don't work...

Once any OS is installed over old one or clean install is done one of the drivers that has to be usually reinstalled is sound drivers. You will have to go to dell.com and choose support and downloads and find ur system and install the new vista driver. This should fix it. Good luck.

Old speakers will not work with new Dell Inspiron 530

Speakers are pretty much universal. Plug them in, and connect the audio cable to the green receptacle on the computer.
