Question about PC Desktops

Am trying to connect to the internet using my current computer and am getting no flashing light or connection to the internet although it says the modem is installed correctly on com port 3 when i have a look at the hardware profiles it doesn't show a com port 3.....help!

In the control panel, device manager, remove the com ports then the modem. Restart the computer and the OS will reinsatll the com ports and the modem should be on a good port 3.

Can not connect to the internet


Verify that the modem is working by using another computer to connect to the Internet. You can also check the lights on the modem for proper operation. They normally should be all green and one may be flashing. Once you've verified the modem is working and can connect to the Internet from another computer, check the network settings of the computer - you can locate this in the control panel. If a network is not listed, then check the Device Manager and verify the Network Adapter is installed with its' driver installed correctly.

Troubleshooting DSL Modems


Ever look at your DSL Modem and wonder what all those lights mean? Why do some flash, while others remain solid? What if your lights are different colors? How do you tell if your DSL Modem is working correctly?<br /> <br /> Each light on your DSL Modem represents a function. The light is an indication of whether that function is working properly. Sometimes the placement and title of each function can vary by modem manufacturer, but they are pretty standard in interpetation. If you look closely your modem, you might find that each function is labeled in small print to help identify them.<br /> <br /> A standard DSL Modem has a light for power, internet, ethernet, link and wireless connection. A healthy DSL Modem will have a steady green light that does not blink or flutter for all features other than internet, ethernet and wireless. A flashing or fluttering light indicates movement and useage. When you are connected to your DSL Modem wireless, the light for this feature will blink indicating a connection and/or active useage. If the internet connection is working properly the color of the light will be green. If the connection is working but experincing a problem the light can turn to yellow or orange. If the connection fails, the light on the DSL Modem can be red or absent depending on the problem causing the trouble. If your service is turned off by the provider, more than likely the light will be "off".<br /> <br /> If your lights turn a different color, are absent or your internet connection fails try power cycling your modem before reporting the trouble to your provider. Power cycling helps the DSL Modem to reset its connection and repair your internet services.<br /> <br /> If you are using a DSL Modem alone to connect to the internet (no additional router) you can power cycle it by first turning off your computer and then unplug the modem itself from the power source at the wall. Wait for 1 to 2 minutes and then plug it back into the power source and wait for the warm up to finish before rebooting the pc.<br /> <br /> The DSL Modem should go through the normal warm up procedures of blinking lights, making them all stable and solid green ect. You will know when its finished warming up when the features are set at solid green (other than eithernet, internet and wireless connection as explained above). When the modem finished the warm up, reboot your computer and check your internet connection.<br /> <br /> Power cycling your DSL Modem can help keep your connection healthy and running at optimal speeds.<br />

My dell 531s wont connect to internet


Fresh install of operating system/ updated drivers may help if all else fails try to get another ethernet card and stick it in there and see if it connects..

Internet connection solutions
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Test the jack.
  3. Test the equipment.
    1. Try a different jack that you know works.
    2. Try a different cable that you know works.
  4. Check your computer settings.
  5. Renew your IP Address
    1. [x] Windows Vista
      1. Look for your Ethernet card:
        1. Right-click on My Computer from the Start Menu or on the desktop.
        2. Left-click on Properties.
        3. Click on Device Manager on the left side under "Tasks".
        4. Expand the Network Adapters and look for any yellow exclamation points. Make sure a card is listed.
        5. If there are exclamation points, or if there is no card listed, you need to reinstall the card.
      2. Set your IP address to configure Automatically (through DHCP):
        1. Go to the Control Panel in your computer (in the Start Menu).
        2. Go to Network & Sharing Center.
        3. Under "Network", go to Local Area Connection and select "View Status". In new window, choose Properties at the bottom.
        4. Scroll down "This connection uses the following items" list to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
        5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

Can NOT Connect to the Internet...


use correct ip address and DNS address and the n check the connection with domain and then connect it to internet. use ping with ip address to check the modem performance.

Computer cannot access the internet


Try to disable wireless card on your desktop. With both the wireless and cat-5 socket enabled, "WITHOUT" the proper bridge settings, they will conflict and not be able to read.

Try resetting the modem. It may be the Modem has to re-assign an appropriate ip address to your desktop.

Need help w/ethernet connection


do this go to start >> then run , type >> inetwiz << then tell it to connect using my local area network , tell it to automatically discovery of proxy , then click next, no to setup email address, "you can do later if want to" then click finish and reboot computer
then try opening internet explorer , make sure if you have a firewall "you have to allow access to internet when asked "
