Since the ViviCam 5118 isn't a battery charger, it will take a very, very long time. The 5118 uses standard AA batteries. If you want to use rechargeable batteries then you much charge them outside the camera using a separate battery charger. Connecting it to a computer through the USB port will drain the batteries even faster, since the camera has to expend power communicating with the camera (even if only to say it has nothing to say).
first you have to make sure that you set the switch on the side to the mountain one. Then turn your camera on and press the "up" button, It should have a little bolt on it. On the screen you should see it has little icons, turn your flash on or auto if you don't want it set it off by pressing it several times till it shows off. hope it helps!
