Question about IBM Aptiva E 240 (2158240) PC Desktop
I've been trying to figure this one out for awhile now.
Ok here is the issue.
We are trying to get the computer to boot up, at least into Bios, but there is no Display(Monitor is black), Keyboard seems to have activity but unable to use(Numlock lock, cap lock etc does not work, but I Know that the motherboard knows It's there because when I unplug and plug the PC back in all three lights on the Keyboard flash once(The Numb Lock, Cap Lock and Scroll Lock lights).
Also, I Used a wireless Keyboard and the lights on it comes on, and every time I hit a key It's action light flashes(Which is normal). The Display does not come on at all, We tried the onboard video, A PCI-E Card and a PCI Card, nothing.
The DVD Drive seems to work, Hard Drive works, Mouse and Keyboard seems to work, at lease they get power, All fans work, all lights work, I Tried another monitor(same problem).
The Computer does one short beep. but that means nothing, I Took out the memory, unhooked the Harddrive and still it does one short beep.
I Resetted the bios by removing the Motherboard Jumper and placing it back on, I Tried a different battery, no Luck.
IT Doesn't seem like it's the motherboard, The only thing we can think of is not enough power?
We rechecked everything, everything seems ok.
Could a Bootup disk solve this Issue?
Try to reinstall the OS..if it doesn't work then there would be a problem with ur motherboard becaouseof failure of IC's. So contact the service men.

Very interesting...Might try the following...
- Video. Yes, almost garuntee that it is either the video card/onboard or the cable. Look at the cable and cable connectors and see if one of the pins has been shoved in. This is common. Often, one will replace the cable and still have the problem because a pin has been shoved in on the mother board.
- Power. Remove everything from your computer except the keyboard and the monitor (yes, even the mouse) to eliminate any power drain issues. If you can, remove the DVD drive (unplug power and data bus cable).
- BIOS. One beep is good. You should be able to get into the BIOS setup no mater what other problems you are having. The BIOS uses a generic text, video and keyboard driver. If you aren't able to see ANYTHING after the beep then it is definately the route from the motherboard through the video card or onboard video, through the cable to the screen. You seem to be going through the right steps to debug but just haven't found it yet because it is something that you have dismissed as working...like the pins on the video connector. Go through your path again, this time look at anything that you have assumed that was working and suspect it as the issue.

Hmm it seems to be problem with Power Supply, but still if you can give a try connecting your system into other socket may be which is properly grounded one.
if the above didn't fix your issue, i would suggest you to disassemble and then assemble it again. try changing the data cable as well.. Last option left is if you have a spare SMTP checkout with that.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it
back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE
MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look
different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is
normal. If it works ok in safe mode then the monitor is ok and we might have an issue with a setting.
Try connecting another monitor to your computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor works ok, then your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor does the same thing as your original monitor then the issue is with the computer (possibly the video card).
