Question about GE Energy Star PDS22SIS Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

The temperature indicator LEDs for both the freezer and the refrigerator dont reflect real temperature(PDS22SBRBLSS)

This is my THRD service reporting problem with GE Profile PDS22SBRBLSS
FIRSTLY, the bottomn freezer stopped working. The arrogant serivce repairman told me it was the "motherboard". I paid $367.25 to have it repaired. TWO days later, the temperature indicator was worse than before. It went as high as 29 degrees.
I called GE again and they sent out another technician. He told me that it wasn't the "motherboard" but infact the compressor fan. It was NOT working. (I got a refund from the motherboard)
THREE days later, it stopped working again. (It never ever did get to zero-Just remained at 29 degrees)
I called them back and they returned a THIRD time. It was the original motherboard that the first technician installed. It was defective.
Now after a week, the temperature led indicators are OFF. The fridge and freezer appear to be working and keeping things cold/frozen however the indicators are now reading 25- freezor and 40 -fridge
CAn ANYONE tell me what is going on with this lemon of a GE Profile fridge?

I have the same model. Bought it in 2005. In July of 2008, the temperature started to go up in the fridge and down in the freezer. GE repairman came and replaced the motherboard (US $269). Within a month the same thing started happening again. Repairman came out again and replaced the motherboard again. Within a month the problem came back. Repairman came again. This time replacing the coils with new coils and compressor with a higher rpm compressor. Within a month the problem was back. The repairman came again and sealed off pipes... He also told me that this model was sourced (not GE make but they put their name on it) and had problems. He also told me if the problem came back to call GE Customer Service. They would have to take care of it. Sure enough, the problem came back last week... I called GE and they agreed that the unit was not repairable. Since the same model was not available anymore (not that I would want it), they "upgraded" it to the French door model and I would get it for $992 instead of the $1,999 retail price. Not sure yet if I want to do this...

SOURCE: GE Profile Refrigerator PFS22SISBSS Bottom Freezer Temperature Indicators

I finally called GE about the non-working LED's and the temperature fluctuation. It's a known problem as many consumers have posted online. I called 800-386-1215 several times. What I found is I'd get different menu options nearly each time I called. The way I got to a 'helpful' human follows: Call above number; you will/may here a voice that states only 'for recalled appliances press 9' (may also have options for repair or parts) PRESS 0; next menu PRESS 5; you'll hear 'for less than 1 yr old press 1' and 'for more than 1 yr press 2'. In my case I pressed 2, then got a menu with 'for refrigerators PRESS 2'. Spoke to a woman who never denied that GE has a motherboard problem. She offered to provide a free motherboard but no labor. I asked (to be sure) if I would have to pay labor, she said yes or I could have $400 off a new crappy GE fridge. She said I would have to have a repairman come to diagnose the problem, then order the part and then come back to repair. I then said, 'You're telling me that I have to pay for TWO service calls to repair a known GE defect???? How much should I expect to pay for these TWO service calls???' She then asked me to hold, then came back on the line and told me that GE would pay the labor for the repair.
I also asked if GE was willing to do anything about the 25 cent door latch that cracked after 11 months (and is attached to the door gasket a $228.00 part) or the rusting wire freezer baskets and was told no. Hey, worth a try! The fact that they said no ensures that I will continue on my crusade to warn anyone who'll listen not to buy GE! Keep calling, after I got the right menu the wait was short the whole call was less than 15 minutes.

SOURCE: My Fridge GE Profile PDS22SBR,

We must admit that your description is a little shocking since you have replace so many parts and the two obvious that you should check first you did not even mention them.

The refrigerator is getting it coldness from the freezer by means of the evaporator fan Evap mtr asm.
Part Number: AP3743432 made by GE

which is located in the freezer department through the Dampner assy
Part Number: AP3775435 made by GE

So you should check if the above fan is working and if yes if the dampner is open free from ice or other object.

All the parts of your model can be found in this link below.

The temp says 14 and 8 but should be -21 and 3? Can anyone help

Controlling the Freezer temperature
The freezer temperature can be set between -14°C (8°F) and -25?C (-14°F) to suit your particular needs. Press the freezer button repeatedly until the desired temperature is shown in the temperature display. Keep in mind that foods like ice cream may melt at -16?C (4°F). The temperature display will move sequentially from -14°C (8°F) and -25?C (-14°F). When the display reaches -14?C (8°F), it will begin again at -25?C (-14°F). Five seconds after the new temperature is set the display will again show the actual current
freezer temperature. However, this number will change as the Freezer adjusts to the new temperature. The top and bottom guards in the freezer of this model are the two star sections, so the
temperature in two star sections are slightly higher than other freezer compartment.

Controlling the Fridge temperature
The refrigerator temperature can be set between 7?C (45°F) and 1?C (34°F) to suit your particular needs. Press the fridge button repeatedly until the desired temperature is shown in the
temperature display. The temperature control process for the Fridge works just like the Freezer process. Press the fridge button to set your desired temperature. After a few seconds, the Fridge will
begin tracking towards the newly set temperature. This will be reflected in the digital display. The temperature of the freezer or the refrigerator may rise from opening the doors too frequently, or if a large amount of warm or hot food is placed in either side. This may cause the digital display to blink. Once the freezer and refrigerator return to their normal set temperatures the blinking will stop.
If the blinking continues, you may need to "reset" the refrigerator. Try unplugging the appliance, wait about 10 minutes and then plug back in.

The refrigerator does not work at all or it does not chill sufficiently.
• Check that the power plug is properly connected.
• Is the temperature control on the display panel set to the correct
temperature? Try setting it to a lower temperature.
• Is the refrigerator in direct sunlight or located too near a heat source?
• Is the back of the refrigerator too close to the wall and therefore keeping air from circulating?

Please as long as the ref. is running, it should freeze very well. if this is not happening check the following.
1, The setting on the thermostat.
2, Check if you have enough gas in your system.
3. Check if your system is not leaking.
4. Check if your door seals are ok.

My GE Mod# PDS22SBRBLSS quit working. the interior lights come on but nothing else works. no temp. display

hi this is a bad motherboard, depending on the age you might want to call GE they replacing some of these at a discounted price which is lower than just buying the board and putting it on yourself its very cheap, you will want to do it as soon as possible as prolonged use with bad board can damage sealed system unit which will totally ruin the refrigerator.

Roper fridge freezer not freezing

Sir, To solve this problem, you must open the compressor area at the back bottom of the refrigerator and chek the temperature of the pressure line. If the temperature is between 55celcius to 60 than its ok. Or else you need to change the refrigerant. I suggest you to contact the service authority.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Freezer is always reporting an error.

The defrosting issue is normally due to a rear brd failure as this controls most of the appliance. Dependant on the model the F90% is normally indicating how much time is left on your water filter before it needs replacing.

I hope this helps
