sounds like the changer was plugged into the antenna jack of the radio. this means that you can run it through any radio simply by sending a signal to a preset station on the radio and listening to it through tuner. the control unit ran the changer itself. you may be able to obtain replacement cables from pacparts.com

Can you please tell me if and where I can get an adapter to join a pioneer cdx m50 multi changer to the lead in the boot of a jagaur xj 40

This vehicle is already pre-wired for an Alpine M-BUS CD Changer, if you look in the boot under the parcel shelf you should see a Alpine cd cable tucked behind the carpet. The Alpine unit will plug in and play without any adaptors. You will not be able to get the Pioneer to work unless you replace the radio system.

Sorry but no. With the units power lead fused, you can hold the red wire to the + terminal of the battery and the black lead to the chassis of the car and power up and eject. good luck

1st just try unplugging the changer overnight. also check and see if a cd may be inserted into the cd mech itself.

Want to know if I can use the line-level inputs from the CD Chgr

Your alpine unit is the old "M-BUS" the other adapter you are talking about is an "AI-BUS" adapter. (Hence the model numbers beginning with CD"M" or CD"A" ...)

Look for an Alpine M-Bus to RCA Input adapter.

heres one on eay for less than 10.00 including shipping.
