USB Printer does not recognize with XP Computer

In most cases, the driver for a printer is supplied when you purchase it. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to provide the driver along with the device to make sure the working.

However, most of the Operating Systems come with native driver support for many known printers. This is the fact we have to take care while purchasing a printer. Even though we misplaced the driver disc, if we purchase a good manufacturer printer, there is a chance to get the native support from Operating System itself.

There are some scenarios where printer may not be recognized by the Operating System due to some conflict with other devices.

Please follow the troubleshooting steps and check the operation:
  • Ensure that the supplied USB cable is firmly connected to both the printer and computer side.

I downloaded the driver that is supposed to work for my windows 7 computer, but it does not recognize that a scanner exists.

Good Day Imberi!

You have to browse the software driver that you downloaded and look for scanner driver. Run the installation again.
If the software driver is not complete, you can download here: You must select first the operating system and look below the drivers.

First of all, the HP C6380 must be connected locally from the PC that you are using. You can then use the scan option from your printer or scan option from the control panel of your system.

Let me know if you want me to help you further.

Computer did not detect the usb attached printer. usb port is in working condition. ( usb device has malfunctioned and window does not recognize it )

ensure that the driver for your printer is installed.
and create a printer in printers.
use your printer wizzard to do this.
once the printer is created connect the printer using the usb cable.
then right click the printer icon in the list or follow wizzard to print a test page
once this printer is in your printer list, you can right click the icon and set it to default printer.
this will then be the printer all programmes will use when printing. or you have to select it when you press print in the file menu of your programme to select which printer you want to use.

I hope this was helpful.

I want to connect a HP P4014n Laserjet Printer up to another computer but I do not have this installation disc, how can I get this printer working on another computer?

download the driver / software from hp website.
if your system is connected to the network / router, your system should recognize your laptop or another system (same workgroup).
add new printer see if the system recognizes else. add the printer by providing the printer ip address. (test print from your printer and will provide the ip address)

Can't install old printer on newer computer

The appropriate printer drivers are bundled with XP. With the printer connected to the computer and powered on, the system should automatically recognize the printer and install the correct drivers if it is connected via USB. If it is connected to the parallel port, go to Control Panel -> Printers, select Add New Printer and follow the on-screen prompts.

Try turning the printer on while it is connected and see if the computer recognizes it. Once it does it will prompt you for the driver. Now you should be able to install the driver.
